What does your port campaign sticker say?

What does your port campaign sticker say?
I'm just curious what the port campaign stickers say on your vehicles? I did not record what my original black car (now in service) said, but the red "loaner" which seem to run verrrryyyyyy good, says the following:
Rework:
03F04
49159
7-22-03
Don't know what good, if any, this might do to help our speculative minds :-) The door tag simply states manufacture of 06/03. I guess I could check the VIN number too.
All I can say is I don't feel any dips at 6,250 rpm, etc. - or if so - they're very mild transitions and this car has a much better top end at this point, even below 7,000 rpm.

I'm curious too. Who out there knows what these 'port campaign' stickers mean (open hood top right)?
Mine says:
PORT CAMPAIGN
Rework# 03F02, 03F04
7/8/2003
Could this be anything about:
a) emissions corrections (ECU)
b) port installed options (I got splashgards frt/rear & rotary appearance pkg?)
c) ??????
Sounds like a mystery needing to be solved. Does anyone else have this, what does your sticker say, any idea what is is?

I have two! The first is typed or printed:
Rework: 03F02
Port: 49155
Date: 6-19-03
The second has been filled in by hand:
Rework: 03F04
Port: Mid
Date: 7-9-03
Judging by the dates, 49155 must be Port Hueneme while Mid is obviously Port Midlothian.

I just returned from mine being in the shop 3 days and i asked him the same thing. He did a print out for me on these for my car.
These items are listed under RECALL/SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS on the Warranty Vehicle History Report from Mazda,
there is also a PNMC number listed on the ticket for these items
A0273-1 port PCM reprogram
A1589-1 gauge oil level
A1589-2 port warranty, booklet
Numbers under hood are 03F02 and 03F04
He said the are reprogram the computer to the area of US the car is going, check the oil level, and put a warranty or owners manual in the glove box.
This is just a guess on his part he did not really know what exactly it involved.

I took the time to look at the intake configuration and found an interesting piece:
one of the electrical plug for a vacuum switch? was taped up with electrical tape and it cannot be professional done at factory! Perhaps that is some indication that they are working some sensors or ports sticking issue?

As you say, it appears to be a VERY CRUDE ATTEMPT to cover over a two wire connector. It's likely they were worried about oil getting on the connection as it is right next to the oil fill cap. And the thing it connects to appears to be a solenoid for some air control plumbing.
The FIX they used, is, how can I say this nicely, STUPID and UNPROFESSIONAL, and highly likley to SIMPLY FALL OFF. A couple wraps of $.50 household electrical tape (MINE wasn't EVEN CLOSED AT THE TOP) that wasn't doing diddly - no I take that back... it would FUNNEL any dripped OIL INTO THE CONNECTION!!
SAD SAD SAD. Come on MAZDA USA people, were you going to fix this at the first service or is this just TERRIBLE port work? NOTE: WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIND / DO THIS CRAP!!!
Anyway, enough ranting at Mazda, here is a simple solution. All of us should see if this exists on their cars, just take the main cover off, look beside the yellow oil cap, and take them back to the dealer or fix it themselves ASAP if this exists.
Take a small piece of 1" split wire cover (Radio Shack / car store) stick a 1" plastic disk at the top, silicone from the inside, let dry and pop it on.
Sheeesse Mazda, let's get with it. $31K and you can only come up with electrical tape right ON TOP of a HIGH HEAT engine??? You bet I'm

The tape on the connector is NOT related to the port rework. There is no proof of this. 1 Forum member made a comment in this thread "speculating" about a possible reason for the sticker.
If you look more closely to your engine, you will find alot more use of the black tape. This is also nothing new to any late model car. My 2000 Solara had it around the engine compartment also.
Do you really think they had a guy running around the port, armed with a case of electrical tape and rework stickers....wrapping this one little connector? No way.
The rework codes are significant enough that a "rework documention" number was assigned. This needs to be disclosed to the consumer....in the way of a small sticker stating port modifications were made. Basically something was changed in the vehicle post production. An issue was dicovered after release from Hiroshima, and "rework" documentation was issued to the ports.
This could possibly relate to last minute mods to the engine or ECU causing lower than expected power. In the form of new O2 sensors or emissions changes. One thing is for certain, The vehicle has been "changed" or modified slightly from its original form following production. Hence the notification stickers. They wouldnt issue a port campaigne rework code for a piece of tape.

But have you looked at yours connector area? I did see more tape work, but it was done neat and clean, for example where wire bunches were coming out of a collar of plastic to seal the area. Although I AM surprised they couldn't come up with a more elegant solution.... still...
THIS PARTICULAR tape was simply a hand done collar of tape (machines don't do tape rolls I don't think) about an inch around -- just sitting there -- not really stuck to anything -- all gooey and hand done looking -- no way this was done at the factory UNLESS quality control at Mazda Japan has been laid off!
The rest of the car is so meticulousely done, this looks so crude... what other explaination could there be??
So I'm NOT saying it is a port campaign, I have no idea what the port stickers and number mean... but IN THIS PROCESS of trying to find out seikx8 has found SOMETHING a little weird and certainly needing correction wouldn't you agree?

Spin9K.....I must agree with you after looking closely at the connector.....It looked like a 5 year old wrapped it up. There are other uses for the tape within the engine bay area....but none so messy.
With that said, I hope there is some way to find out what the rework codes mean. I mean, SOMEONE knows......its just getting to him or her.
I'm not ruling out the Low power figures to a "change" or rework made to the cars while in port. We know they did something worthy of documentation.......we shall see in time.
Spin9k....I will be up in the Lakes Region all next week....Gilford NH......Silver 6MT with Tint.....maybe I will see you

Yeah, mine has that piece of tape too. I saw it as I was showing off the car to my son inlaw. It was open as you said it was on yours, evidently from the heat, the glue was real goopy. I didn't want him to see it so I just pinched it closed & put the cover back over the engine. :o
Uh, folks, it's right there. Just remove the engine cover & look next to the yellow filler cap.
Good idea on the fix...

For Those of you with rework indicating 03F04 a question - do your vehicles all have the rotary accent package? Just trying to find some correlation since I personally don't know who at Mazda to ask! The vehicle I'm driving has the rotary accents as the only option that I think would have been port installed. The mechanic at the dealership indicated that the port sticker on my original black car was for a checking of oil level and correct dipstick? I still need to check the black car to see what the rework sticker says on that one.

Definitely that piece of tape will not qualify for a port campaign, but I do believe it is significant evidend that they have touch some sort of electrical, connectors or sensor rework, etc.
After a few more hood opening, I also found a second sticker hiding on the hood which is hard to see if you don't pay attention or look vertically up: Rework #03F03, 7/3/2003
Whatever they're working on, I'm sure one day someone will talk.
At least the engine cover does serve a purpose :D
