I was parked at blockbuster and a silver 8 parks right next to me. Guy in his 60-70's. I asked how he likes the 8, blah blah blah. I get the blank stare back.
I'm no teen and don't look it either.

unfortunally most people are just plain clueless. 8 owner or not.
This is very true for AZ! I have seen two 8's while driving my 8. I waved and I swear they looked at me like as if I was far beneath them. I thought, "Dang, I just got owned for waiving!" Oh well, I will keep waiving. I do get a few looks of admiration when I am driving my wife's CX-7 from other Mazda's; one of them was even an 8!

I get more waves from by-passers, construction workers, and kids than I do RX owners of any kind.

Sorry to hear you need reassurance from other 8 drivers that your car (or you) is/are indeed cool.

I didn't buy mine to be in a club or to be accepted by people with like interests.

And a note to bunny, you had someone strong enough to shake your car by wiggling the accents and you kicked them in the arm? You might be the baddest owner in the forum.

Does this post not bother anyone else?

While I can understand some of the complaints here, if someone starts revving their engine at me or yelling at me to get my attention, I always, ALWAYS ignore them. And honking the horn? Yikes..I'd ignore you too, or flip you off. The horn is a warning, not a "hi there!" A simple "thumbs up" is all I really want to see- anything else and I automatically assume (like most people would) that you're trying to race. The few times I've actually responded to some dumbass yelling "hey!!!!" out the window at me from a nice car, they're hitting on me. No, thanks.

To counteract a few of the above instances...

#4.Who in the world even tries to talk to a car full of teenage boys? That's just ASKING them to make fun of you and try to show off- that's what teenage boys do.

#5.And you actually had the nerve to get mad at someone who wasn't paying attention to you reving your engine at him? And then you even YELLED at him? I'd ignore you too, and probably call the cops about a case of road rage.

And sorry, #6 sounds like she was not only was agreeing with you, but kinda playing back. And you call her a "saggy old ****." WTF?

I only been snubbed once when this lady who works in the same complex as i do pulled out and i waved to her she looked dumbfounded, l was liek ehh u probably dont know what you have.

This one time saw an Grey RX-8 on upcoming traffic. I highbeamed him from like 500 yards away. thinking he probably didn't see me but turns out he did cause as i got closer he put his arm up in the window to wave haha. Felt good to know that some people know what they have.

As far as RX-7 owners not respecting or waving to RX-8 owners, i beg to differ. this backroad has some winding roads......and one of turns has a house with a baby blue 1st gen RX-7, well that guy car was on (lights were on) and i was driving with my lights on, i flashed the high beam @ him (my fog lights went off) and he flashed back and beeped .

But there was one other time at night, these girls in a blue RX-8 were on the HW......i beeped at them to wave and they were all confused.....so its really a hit or miss with RX-8 owners.....but it doesn't bug me cause well i know what i have.......

The thing is, strangers compliments make up for people who drive the RX-8 lack of knowledge for the car. Today i was parking my car at the office........i opened the sucide door and the driver door at the same time to get my jacket from the backseat........this guy from like 5 parking spaces said "excuse me, what kind of car is that?" and i'm like "an RX-8"......he like thats a Mazda?! he like thats so coool!! i didnt know the doors opened like that, i never seen a car like this before......its so rare......i bet the ladies like it" lol.....went on to talk about cars and how i look like i was in sales lol....and swapped business cards.

Or how your co-workers both male and female want to drive it.......and you look at them like ......maybe......if ur good......or not a chance lol....and then when u go out drinking with them after work, and they try to buy you more drinks so that they can drive ur car.....Its compliments like these that make me ignore those other RX-8 owners who don't know they have something special.......cause these strangers here remind me all the time.....that i have soemthing unique.

1. There is such a thing as trying too hard.

2. Relax.

3. Do not:
a. Yell out of your car.
b. Honk.
c. Rev your engine.

4. Do:
a. Give a thumbs up.
b. Flash highs (once or twice, that's it).

People are people. Most of them are dumb and don't want to be bothered. If you end up next to another enthusiast on the road they will be just as aware of you as you are of them. Then you can exchange nods or thumbs and feel all warm and tingly inside. (Since you are Male) Don't mess with Female drivers, they will just think you're hitting on them.

Really the best place to meet and speak with other rotor heads is at a meet (imagine that). I've met some great folk at the meets here. For a really good time go on one of the organized drives.

ok so today..... on my way to work. as the 5FWY and the 170FWY merge, I see a silver Rx8.
My heard stopped almost like if I just saw a cop on Need For Speed Carbon (hehe). and I was like, Niiice!

so I drove up next to him....
Im looking over......
he still doesent look over at me.......
I speed up a bit cuz i figure, maybe he doesent know what kind of car is next to him so i go up a bit so he can see me...
then i drop back again...

nothing....
instead he rolls down his window a bit more and ashes his cigg. (not on my side, I was on his passenger side)
So then I took off, and blew my blow off at him.

Yes, were not all enthusiast...

but,
Theres guys who just dont care....
then theres guys who are just *** holes.

I'm thinking....maybe you just rub people the wrong way. Maybe people are taking your "nice car" attitude and are interpretting it as "this guy is just being a dick" attitude.

I personally always get a wave back, or a "nice car!" from other RX-8 drivers. Granted, I only see one every couple of weeks, but I'm usually acknowledged.

I just think it's odd that people would purchase an FC or FD without knowing about the rotary engine aspect of the car. Especially an FD....they're too expensive and fast to not know what is producing all of that power.

Just to add something positive here, I had a day about a month ago where I got several comments on my car. One was from a carload of teenagers when I had stopped at a gas station and hadn't got out of my car yet. I hear "nice car!" from behind me, look up in the rearview mirror and give them a wave. Then when I was in a parking lot loading some bags in my car I see this lady walking by and smiling at me. She says "I really like your car". Of course maybe she was just hitting on me because I am so hot.

Dude, find a way to take it easy

There are a LOT of ******** out there - You're going to have to deal with them. Also, you are young, and you will get less respect, that's all there is to it. It's not personal, its the way it is.

Keep your relaxed attitude, keep reaching out to people. Most of the time they will let you down. On rare occasions it will work out, you'll make a friend, and it will have been worth it.

G/L

- and find a way out of Texas It's worth it. LOL

Texas rocks! Why leave? I can't think of another state I'd rather be in and I've been to many of them.

Yeah, when I first moved to Texas I use dto always ask my dad, "do you know that guy, why did he wave at you?" It's a trip how everyone out in the country waves at each other.

it's funny how it all depends on where you come from. i grew up in the southwest where it was almost a rule that you made eye contact and waved to people as they walked/drove by. my wife grew up in the philly 'burbs where that's not so much the case. when we met in the midwest she was amazed at how people would say hello to you that she didn't know. of course, my take on it was that i saw how many people looked at the ground when they walked and only a few said hello. now moving to CT and working in NYC, forget about saying hello.

In the motorcycle world, it's much easier to give a friendly wave or thumbs up and have the other guy see it, and it's a very common practice. Even so, I still on occasion get dicks who steadfastly ignore my gesture (generally Harley guys). You have to just let it wash over you and forget about it; in those cases I just mutters "Schmuck!" under my helmet, maybe turn my still-outstretched arm into a middle-finger salute, and move on.

Driving my 8, I have found it MUCH harder to make any kind of contact with other 8 drivers. I have found it really only works when both drivers are looking to make contact with each other. There's not really a good way to grab the other guy's attention without looking scary-dangerous. But I've had some good experiences; one in particular stopped at a light, where the guy hadn't seen a Shinka black-cherry and was asking me if it was a custom paint job.

I've been to Minnesota. It's got it's perks but I actually like driving my car 12 months out of the year. Admittedly Houston isn't my favorite city but Texas is a big place that is very diverse with lots to offer, see, and do. Out near San Antonio and Austin it's very nice. I hope to end out that way at some point. Besides Minnesota is the home of Hormel in Austin, Minn. which are the makers of SPAM. I'm not sure how to forgive you guys for that one!

So tell me, did the other kids choose you last for pickup baseball games, and put you out in right field, and make you bat last? Did your mother dress you funny? Is that why you crave approval and acknowledgement now?

Did you get the car for the driving experience, or just to draw attention and meet friends? You want to make friends, go to a club (especially an RX8 club meeting or something similar), but don't expect some stranger to find you inherently interesting because of what you drive. The other guy may be deep into his ride, but just not give a damn about you - and that's okay.

I run into this on Harleys a lot - some character figures that because he spent 18k on his ride and he's fifty miles from home, that makes him my "bro". No, he's not.

But I'll still stop and help him (or you) if you're broken down on the road. That's a different deal entirely.
