Everyone seems to like the Mercedes SLR? I saw one on the street outside a dealership here in Chicago a few weeks back, I thought it was about the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. Certainly not worth the "upwards of $450,000" that the salesman quoted me.

In actuality when you consider that only a small handful of 20B motors were even made, and probably less than 100 cars in the whole world have had a 20B swapped into them, doesnt seem so common a swap does it?

The 20B swap is just not feasible for your regular guy, so expect to see performance made with the renesis, not with a swap where more RX-8s are sold per month than there were motors ever produced.

You are so right on. It takes HUGE CASH to do that swap.

I would go with a 13BRE(1st choice) or 13B-T swap over a 13B-REW swap. At least the 13B-T have shown to last over 150,000 miles in stock form with more than just a few speciments. I will have a 13B-REW for sale shortly though. Probably no transmission though as I am going to keep it for my Miata.

That's about right and pretty standard, well not standard but the going rate :p It's not an easy swap and requires a lot of supporting mods and labor hours. A while back someone broke down the cost the their 20b swap into their FD and it added up to nearly 85k is I recall. Which leads to another reason why it's just not common. How many people out there are going to put nearly 100k into a Mazda when you could be driving around in a Viper or used Exotic and not even have to be as well off since you can finance those...

It's not common, cool and out of the ordinary. but you are completely right Ikewrx about being able to buy another exotic and not dump that sort of money into a Mazda. I love my Mazda, but I love my money more.

Well, I've got about a billion pictures, but I'll just give you the two that matter to me (and that are worth my time on this horrible dial-up connection):

It is Alpine's demo car. Go to www.alpine-usa.com . At the top of the page, click on "support". Within support you will find "demo cars". The Mini Cooper S is one of them. All of the pictures of the install and finished product are there. There are hundreds of pictures.

Thanks RG, I'm not a big show car guy but that's mighty impressive. I can't even imagine the man hours that went into that car.

85K is a bit excessive. Pettit advertised their Banzai 20B conversion for 35K not including owner's car. Considering you can get a FD for 15K, you're talking 50K for a car that can compete with just about any exotic. I don't know if the price is still the same, but I can't imagine it's gone up that much.
