What have I done?! self-pwnage

so today i finally got around to having my rx-8 towed to my dealership because of a flooded engine (with upgraded starter, battery etc). regardless of the fact that i flooded my engine, what i am about to say will undoubtedly prove that i am the hugest idiot in the world.

Mazda Roadside tow truck arrives. i let the guy into my gated parking lot and start pushing my car backwards out of it's spot so we can get it rigged up and onto the flat-bed. i am facing the rear of my car, standing on the drivers side with my left hand on the steering wheel and my right hand on the suicide door pushing. rather than roll my window down, i leave my driver door wide open. SNAP! i bend my drivers side door backwards against a fucken pole. now i have a crazy dent and cracked paint on my door, and the goddamned thing sags and creaks when i open and close it. i hate myself thanks for reading.

Good job.

But at least its not as bad as pushing a car with the driver's door closed and a pocket knife clipped to your pocket...

I closed mine in my garage door two weeks ago. Felt like a giant moron. It happens, but it still sucks. Sorry you're going through that.

Your lucky sort of..
Back in high school I was in the packing lot with a friend. He was parked backwards next to a van parked backwards. Anyways I was getting the the car (passanger side)and the van was pulling out as he had seen me getting in. (and didnt wait) Well he ended up cutting the turn abit soon and his steal bumper hooked on to my friends door and ripped that **** off and bent the crap out of his fender.
I wanted to scream for him to stop but I was so WOW'd at what happened I just watched it instead.

true, could always be worse. just angry that if i had slowed down to THINK about what i was doing, my car probably would have gotten to the dealership unscathed. i kept looking at my car in the towtruck rearview hoping it would fall off and blow up so i could get a new rx-8. i'm dead to me

So if it happens again would the door get reposted?

ha ha ha Sorry to hear it though I know that sucks. My old two door car had worn out hinges so I had to roll down the window pick up on the door to slam it shut. It was such a pain.

That will be like the time my wife backed her car out of her side of our two car garage, not noticing that one of our other cars was in the driveway behind my side. Nice sideswipe.

The adjuster held his mirth, and paid the claim. Collision on one, property damage liability on the other.

The best door tale - and this one really was funny in the end - was when my father and one of my brothers were pushing a car back out of the family's one-lane driveway (wouldn't start) and the driver's door caught on the edge of an embankment. Ripped it right off. After much screaming, they jump started it and my other brother was given the task of bringing it in to get fixed.

Everyone at the local garage (we were regulars) came out to look when he drove it in. Then they discovered that the door was actually OK - the hinges had broken. Quick trip to a Chevy dealer for some new hinges, and all was well.

Second best part was when Dad and the pushing brother came home and saw the car intact. Best part was ribbing them about it for years.

You should have let it broke all the way so you had Suicide doors.

jp, bro.

Sad ****, I know I would have punished myself. and when i got my car back, I would take it to a nice Detailing place and a super detail clean job to make up for it. then probably buy it a performance part just to make her feel better.

Has anyone closed the suicide door when the front door was already shut? I almost did that at a dealer. What would happen?

Captain Mercury's door Post count: 1

I gave myself a CJ (Curb Job) with less than 1000 miles on the car. I am the only one who can see it, but it still burns. The dent I got in my passenger door with less than 2000 miles, however, doesn't sting nearly as bad (yes, the CJ both burns and stings).

yeah...it just bounces off. I've had people do that several times. But apparently Mazda bugeted for that in the door padding.

Hopefully you will be able to look back on this one day and laugh about it. Until then I would recommend drinking heavily to dull the pain.
