what intake is this?
Hey guys, i've narrowed down my RX8 purchase to a few cars located around my area. The first one is a 2004 Velocity Red 6MT GT w/ nav with about 51k on it for 13.700 in San Gabriel. The only thing is, while I was looking at the pictures on the website, one engine bay shot showed an intake, and I didnt know whether or not it was a brand name or some generic intake. What do you guys think?
The other car is a 2005 Ti-Grey 6mt GT w/ nav with about 41000 miles for about 14.900 in Brea
This weekend im going to take a look at both of these and hopefully test drive them. Anything in particular I should pay special attention to when handling a used RX? Thanks for the advice!

You're all wrong Muahah , bunch of NUBS !
Thats K&N Version I (1/ONE) INTAKE
which is garbage.
Version 2 is MUCH better. Im probably the longest user of this intake (its now off for MS CAI cuz I want something new, will install K&N back 1 day)

All intakes, including the "so called" CAI. will turn itself into Hot intake as long as u're in traffic for more than 30 seconds. Cuz dont forget, even the "CAI" when the car is not moving, will pretty much suck The air around the Radiator Area, which is STILL hot.
as soon as your car moves, both K&N and CAI will quickly cool off
I had K&N v1,v2 and now MS CAI so I know how ALL of them works

so does this mean the performance isnt on par with v2? and that i should just find a stock airbox on the forums somewhere and replace it?

So ask the owner of the car how many miles did he had that K&N Version I on his car, dont tell him about the problems with V1, if its been a while (more than a year, or couple thousand miles), ask him about "did u ever had any highway speed stalling issue?" , if he said no, he is lying, u should not buy that car from him.

I mis-typed/read, but thanks for pointing it to me. I have a V2 installed but have insulated the the under tray and the entire heat shield installed on the intake. Still get a little warm but like Jedi said all intakes are hot air intakes given time. Besides all intakes take in ambient air which is always gonna be whatever the outside temp is. And once sitting still, they all suck in hot air...

but when it moves, I think K&N will be able to get the air faster.

K&N was stupid enough to release Version one, Look at the picture you found, the filter's front, which is where the Air suppose to come in was blocked by the filter itself. the air has to go "Around that" in order to be able to go into the engine, not smooth, lots of turbulence, not good. Another problem with V1 is the lack of air straightener (You need this piece from your stock intake setup), which results in highway speed stalling (it aint fun to drive @ like 50-60 mph then u found out ur engine is dead and u have to restart ur car in the middle of the highway)
This is Version 2, Which could be find Anywhere right now (Due to numerous complains, K&N has to D/C V1 about 1/2 yr after it went on sale, then they spent about another 1/2 year to research on V2)
