What its all about

Ever since I bought my 8 in Sept. my son's friends have been drooling over it. The first week i had it i let one of his friend's drive it with me in it. He had a blast. Two of his friends who happen to be brothers and the most polite kids you would find also talk about it and tell me when they see me driving around. i told them to come over anytime and we would go for a drive. Finally came over this month and I took them out on Y highway. A perfect road with all the curves you can handle. The oldest, a freshman in college went first and gave it a great workout with me in the passenger seat and his bro in the back. Taking the curves 75-80, and you could just tell what a great time he was having. His brother, still in H.S. had his turn on the way back and gave it a even better workout(drove it a tad bit better then his older bro)) and i remember him commenting as he was coming up on a tight curve "this car is worth more then my life", lol. Anyway, they had a great time and you couldn't convince them that this car is anything but special. My son said the youngest wouldn't shutup about the drive all week in school
They understand what driving is and it isn't just the 1/4 mile. They came over in a 98 GTP supercharged Grand Prix. They liked driving the 8 in the curves vs the torque in the Grand Prix. Just knowing they had a great time brings me joy haters be damned. After they drove, I found out they both race during the dirt track season. If you can stomach it, let someone else enjoy your car(supervised of course). Its just a car afterall. I guess my only point sharing this is anyone that dogs this car is a fool. Its a great drive, period.

That was rather nice of you, I don't think I could stomach handing over my keys to a couple teenagers.

P.S. I thought the hokey pokey was what it's all about...

Thats nice of you. It's always nice to let fellow enthusiasts enjoy your cars. Hell, if it hadn't been for people like you, I would be half the driver I am today. One guy even trusted me with his 300k race prepped BMW, one of the best days of my life, one of the scariest days of my life.

Wouldn't do it for any teenager. These kids are very responsible and good drivers. They also know alot about cars and have done some great work to theirs. Not saying I wasn't nervous but they felt the car out and didn't take any crazy chances.

WRONG. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, and that's what it's all about. At least get your facts straight Ike Goooooosh...

Besides me, there has only been 3 other people behind the wheel of my 8 in over a year of ownership. My wife, my brother, and my best friend. Anyone else, I would be hard pressed to hand over the keys, even with me in the passenger seat.

Very nice of you. Only my dad has driven it, except for the idiots at the local Mazda Dealer. The one on Thursday left a pile of my tires in the service bay, and killed it three times. I was after his job, but no luck. I just dont trust anyone, maybe I should, my dad;s business partner let my have the priveledge of driving his German spec 930 slantnose, that thing was fast.

The guy who started this thread knows a thing or two about life. A pleasure shared is usually a pleasure enhanced.

Some judicious care needs to be taken but having an absolute rule that no one else can drive your car seems a bit OTT to me.

Yeah, nicely put revolver.

This is my first ever NEW car so I've been a little greedy with it, but it's about time I let my friends and family enjoy it.

bmcc49er, you are a gentelman and a scholar. My coworkers who know about the 8 keep asking me to bring it to work. So I did, well, one guy even took pics of it, of course he was given a ride. I actually when up to 80 as fast as I could, then slowed down and drifted into in a turn. The 8 performed exceptionally. He was impressed...oh and his toy is Z1000

I have only let one friend drive the 8, but he did ask please. :D Now he can't stop talking about it too. He is a little, no very, envious because he can't afford a sports car given his situation.
