I just wanted to compare my car with yours, so far 40,000 miles and 50% brakes left. So far I have learned that I am doing better than most. Thats the info I was looking for. Better than watching Oprah!

I must treat my breaks like ****** because I'm fixing to have to throw my 3rd set (in the front) and I'm sitting at 55,000 miles.

They arent shot yet but I'm getting worse and worse squeaking/groaning.

squealing brakes aren't a sign that they need replacing. The early RX-8's had this issue, and there's a TSB to replace the brake pads with less aggressive pads that do not make noise.

I would personally recommend HAWK Ceramic pads. Low dust, no noise

i put the HPS pads in recently and noticed a lot of dust. is this just cause they are bedding to the rotor?

or are the HPS pads known for excessive dust?

As per the 06 RX-8 Maintenance Schedule your should have your brakes *inspected* every 15K miles (schedule 1) and every 5k miles for schedule 2.

I change mine at 10,000 miles. They were squealing to much so I bought Hawks Ceramic for it . No more squeal. I could have taken it in for the TSB , but i figure what the heck.

I just hit 52,000 miles and still have the original pads. I checked them last at about 50K miles and still had about 50% of the pad.

I replaced my front brake pads at 30000kms. I now have 41527kms and the rear ones don't need replacing yet...
It depends on how you are driving. Just check them visualy and change them when needed.

I replaced my front pads about 5 months ago...around 33,000 miles. I'm going to have to replace the rear ones soon.
