What to note before buying a new 08 RX8?
Hello folks! I'm about to pick a new RX-8 from the dealer by the end of this month, and I have a couple of questions.
1) I want to buy a new car, but the sales man tries to sell me the "demo" one that everybody test drives when they are interested in an RX-8. And that seems to be the only black RX8 they have. Should I ask them to get a new one (and customize it), or should I just get that one? I haven't got a chance to read the odometer though.
2) If I have a chance to read the odometer, how many miles are acceptable? Because that car is a test drive car.
3) So, I should be getting an 08 RX-8, right? But how can I tell it's an 08 or before?
4) Anything else to note before getting it?
I'm sorry for asking this kind of "entry-level" questions, but I really did try search first, but nothing relevant came up.
Thank you very much!

I'd hate to dive the test car, because you know they drive it hard, and not paying attention to the wear in time. BUT warranty!
If you could hold off for a few more months, the 09's should be rolling off the line, with the new reliability mods to the engine. I'd say it's worth the wait, unless you NEED a new car now.

I'm currently in need of a car because we are planning a vacation in driving in the following months.
But you know what, the 09's you mentioned really draws my attention and interest. I think I can wait.... but do you know when is this due here in the U.S.?
I did some search, found out that the new model has been on sale in Japan since last month. This couldn't be too far from the U.S., is that right?
Thanks!

I would try to avoid getting the demo car. That said mine had 50 miles on the odometer and I got a hell of a deal for buying the previous year's model when I got mine. I would only take it if you're getting a good discount. Get the quote from them and then post it here along with the car's specs and odometer reading. We'll let you know if it's worth it then. Read the 'purchasing' forum here.

First of all, thanks for the inputs! I really appreciate them!
But after some researches on the new 09's, it seems that the engine remains the same, but with some minor improvements (revisions) here and there.
Yes, I do think the current model looks better so I think I'll go ahead and buy the 08s.
@kersh4w:
Yes, I do realize how thirsty the 8 is, but I think driving it about 2,000 miles visiting different places is still cheaper than buying airplane tickets (3 persons), isn't it?
So, should I ask them to get a new one or stuck with the test drive one (and ask them for some offer if possible)?
Thank you!

From what I know right now (I haven't got a chance to read the odometer), the full price is around 33k, which is a GT, black.
Is that a nice offer or not?
Also, I'll definitely check out the purchasing forum for the pricing info. Thanks!

Well I don't know what is common now, but getting an 06 in 07 that car could be had at around $27k at lots of dealers. And that's without a huge odometer reading. You should pay below invoice, and then subtract all rebates. So total discount is something like $6k or $7k off MSRP. Read through the purchasing forum to find out exactly what people are paying right now (I am still going by last year's #'s). That's the best tool.

The "Demo" car is normally a mangers car. They have it until about 4000-5000 miles, at which time the manufacturer gives the dealership a discount on that particular car so they can sell it at a lower price.
I am not a fan of the demo cars. Most I have seen have been beat up. (would you be nice to a car if you knew you were getting another one in 5000 mile?)
And here in the near future, you will be able to get an 08 for next to nothing.
Take your time, and look around. There are a few dealerships out there that will be VERY willing to sell you one cheap.

Okay guys, thanks for the info!
I'll look around the local dealers for a better deal, and I'll avoid the demo cars of course.
The purchase forum, actually was not very helpful, because most of the posts were about used cars, and for those who bought new ones the posts are often too old (at least 6 months ago).

Make a new thread in there once you have all the car's details and a proposed deal. People will figure it out with you.
If that demo does have 1000+ miles I wouldn't touch it. 500 would probably be my hard line and require a significant deal below invoice.

bad call on the '08 IMO. The fact that the body style will be much more rare than the 04-08 style will probably make the car worth more in the long run. And the new oiling system should help with engine life, and some rumors indicate that the new models won't have flooding problems.

@arghx7:
It will be a huge improvement if the 09's have resolved the flooding problems completely.
I probably won't pay too much attention on the engine life issue --- as I'm planning to lease the car for 3 years. So that wouldn't be a big problem, is that right? (please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm no expert in this field).
Thank you!

In 3 years, I'd hope you don't go through an engine, but hey, there is always the possibility! I don't know, I'm an oddball and LOVE the way the 09 looks. Coupled with the extra oil injector, and other tweaks, I think it sounds perfect!

if you want a gt make sure you r happy with the driver seat....I find the 'steel' cross back in the middle back of the driver seat unacceptable for my taste. might save some money and do the touring model instead and get after market leather installed. then again I was not aware of just how bad the seat was until after I made the purchase....then I asked myself how the he## mazda could sell a car with a seat that makes you feel the framing when you lean back into it.
sad indeed...
do though love my red/black interior.

@CyberPitz:
Thanks for the hint! Yes, I am also very tempted with the 09's, but according to my situation (I live 2 minutes walk from the place I work, and I just use the car for weekly grocery and occasional trips), so the engine should not be an issue.
Plus, I probably need it sooner than the release of 09's, so 08's would not be a bad choice. Is that right?
@motor:
Thanks for the tip! You know what, the *only* reason I go for the GT was the heated front seat, which is only available in the GT and the 40th version. I'm not saying the seats are comfortable, but I'm living in a place where heated front seat is pretty important, at least for my wife. ;-) But I'll definitely pay more attention to the seat the next time I go to the dealer.
