What is The real number of owners with Problems

Visitors always see all the negatives and people complaining about the rx8, when in fact, the majority of the owners have no real problems with the rx8... just want to post a poll and see what the actual numbers are... no one even needs to reply! i hope too see a great percentage of people with no real problems with the car..

Any poll on a forum like this must be taken with a grain of salt. There is no way of verifying that everyone who votes is actually an RX-8 owner, and there are a few folks on this forum who seem to have a lot of bones to pick with a car they don't own or have never driven.

That being said, no problems for me :D

My only complaint is the big bulge from the engine/transmission on the passenger side that takes away quite a bit of legroom on the left side. But I don't sit on the passenger side so I guess it's really a non-issue :p

Considering that I get horrible gas mileage and they have had my car for 2 weeks now because the throw out bearing went bad! I think this constitutes major issues

My only issue is the RX-8 Kick Panel Emblem fell off when I was cleaning the car for the first time. 2 days old. Dealer contacted me and will take care of it.

What's a "throw out" bearing? Does that mean you just throw it out and get a new one :p

i dunno what i fall under...i'm taking it in on Jan. 5 (i'll be in Vegas from tomorrow until then) to have these problems checked out:

- the car stopped accelerating all of a sudden until i shifted up...then the CEL light came flashing on...did it twice on the ride home

- damn high speed low oil sign comes on whenever i reach 80...

- the most annoying rattle sound keeps getting worse on the passenger side door...it's so bad now that it rattles even when i'm not in the car and the car isn't even on...it may just be in my head =P

- bad mileage but what else is new

- too many guys stare at my car...not really sure if this is a problem Mazda can fix but i asked them to check on it anyway...where are the hot import chicks?

btw, some *******(s) stole my rotary valve stems caps...

Actually. the MPG should be in the "no problems of note", as it is not a mazda issue, but an EPA issue

Every time I think I have a problem, it seems to go away on it's own. Had the oil pan light at 2500 miles, hasn't happened but once since then, and that was at 3000 miles. Kick plate is still annoying, but I'll fix that with double-sided tape. If anything, my major complaint is that the car has ruined me for all other cars.

The only problem I had was kind of my own doing: in order to avoid kids stealing my rotary valve stem caps, I hand tightened them one day using a towel and a vice grips. While tightening one of them, the damn valve stem twisted off and all the air came out of my tire. This was the 2nd day I had the vehicle and I had to drive around with that funky yellow spare tire for a little while. Turns out the valve stem has an expensive electronic sensor attached that took a couple weeks to order from the dealer. So in the meantime I used a rubber valve stem and drove around with the tire pressure low light on in the dash.

Lesson learned: don't mess with the stems, they're weak. It was quite the hassle arguing with Mazda to get this warrantied.

I would answer 0 problems but with only about 700 miles on the car, I might jinx it. I'll wait until I have a 2000 or so on it before I vote

Because my RX-8 has been a guest at the Mazda Service department for 25% of it's life over 2 months, with 5 seperate vacations (from me)... I too thought of posting this poll. However, without a qualification of "miles" as Sea Ray pointed out, I determined it would be pointless. I also thought of posting multiple polls, like in 2500 mile segments through 15,000 miles, to see how the numbers changed. But then again, my need to know the good fortune of others was not sufficient enough to see all these polling posts.

good points guys... but i guess, i just wanted to post a poll that points out that overall, watever the mileage, the most real rx8 owner probably will be in the lower two categories.. well hopefully LOL...

Interesting how 4 engine replacements were noted, with no accompanying gripe. Can you say "Troll"? Now, I know there are a couple of real owners who have had engines replaced, and that might account for 2. Speak up, ye 2nd engine pollees :D

Edit: I see mechanical failure is also an option under Major Problems. So far I count 1, maybe 2 major issue responses, yet there are 4 votes. Now aren't peolple likely to complain as well as vote?

I just turned 1000 miles, and have 3 problems:

Started getting serious power lag when accelerating in 1st gear at 4000 rpm, but quickly recovers. Probably something to take to dealer and check out.

I think the Bose system sucks (at least mine). Can't turn up volume past 7 without rattling the door and speakers distorting (with Bass setting at 3). Have better quality sound in my Ford truck.

Mileage, mileage, mileage. I know everyone dismisses this issue as "what do you expect for a sports car". But I expect it to come close to the advertised EPA stats that were used as part of my decision to purchase. Also, getting the same mileage around town as my 3-1/2 ton 4x4 truck is pretty sad, and my Corvettes had better mileage with a lot more performance. So I do think it is a problem.

No real problems... I did get an intermittent CEL, once before I got it stuck on a patch of ice, and twice after. Took it to dealership, had ECU flashed - no CEL since. Have a slight delay at 6k in first, and around 7k in second, but very quick recovery. I noticed the delay just tonight, so I'll be calling dealer in morning... I'll report back what they say. Otherwise, no problems.
