What should I do?

What should I do?
Ok so heres the deal. I have a leak in one of my tires, so I go to the local tire shop to see if they can patch it. When I pull up the service guy askes me where the lug nut key is. I stop and think, I dont ever remember seeing one sence I got my car. (I bought my 8 in early July of this year). So I go to Mazda and ask for a lugnut key. They tell me they dont have any in stock to give me, but they could order me one. Sucks b/c I have to wait over a week, but I told him to go ahead and order it. He then tells me it will cost 35$. I was pissed but said ok. But now that I am thinking of it thats bullshit that I have to pay for something that shold have come with the car. I mean it is only 35$ but its not like I have a money tree. That money could go to something better. What should I do?

You did not say if you looked behind the panel in the trunk where it's kept?

^ thats where mine was, have the shop spin it off with a nut extractor socket all 4 and replace them with regular lugs, that security lug isnt going to stop someone who steals rims but will give you a headache regularily

this is BS. the dealer should have their own set of wheel lock keys if they are in fact dealer supplied locks to begin with (which im sure they are if they can order you one). we have a kit at the mazda dealer i work at that has every possible key for our mazda wheel locks, even the toyota dealership i worked at before had a set for theirs. and ive taken them off for many customers free of charge. hell, when i get a car in that im doing tires or a rotation or whatever that has wheel locks on, i never even look for their key unless its a special aftermarket set, i just use the shop ones because they are heavy duty and can be used with impact wrenches. however, if you want one to have for yourself, i think you are in the wrong to bitch about the 35 bucks. you bought a used car. the dealership doesnt owe you anything. its business. get over it. when i worked at toyota, we had so many customers walking around and bitching about everything, like we owed them something because they bought a car from our dealership. people complaining about paying for patching a tire after they picked up a nail...bithcing about having to pay to get some scratches fixed that they caused....like i said before its a business, and if customers never pay for anything, they wont be there to give you free stuff.
if you dont want the locks on, ask them to remove them for you and install normal wheel nuts. they should have some kicking around. although, it sounds like this preticular dealer may not be the best or brightest...maybe try the next closest dealership and see what they can do for you. they should have been able to remove your wheel locks to get the wheel off no problem because to order you the right key, they have to find the right dealership key (the heavy duty key i was talking about) that matches your locks to get the right code to order the key you need...so they would still be able to take the wheels off no problem...
just my experience and 2 cents

Ill do you one better, I brought my car in for service and got my key stolen (Or the tech accidently forgot to put it back). I politely told the advisor my key was missing and they denied it!!!!!
Then he proceeded to lecture me on how they can easily be misplaced and he could order me a new one for only 85 bucks!!
I actually removed my locking lugs at that point since I didnt have the money at the time and lived in a town in Iowa of 800 people, lol. Now Im in Chicago and kinda regret that decision

You can buy a new set of locking nuts for maybe half of that $85. You can buy a replacement key for something like $10 or $15. They're made by McGard - check their web site at mcgard.com. I'd expect that at least one of our forum vendors sells stuff like this.
