What a tease!

How awful is it that we have these beautiful works of engineering which excel at committing illegal acts!

Speeding, Taking turns quickly (which can be interpreted and very well be reckless driving), a little tail spin =P

I'm just on a rant because I got a speeding ticket recently for enjoying my 8

The 8 is always edging me on but I'm fighting to contain my excitement haha... creepy.

Seriously though - I was doing 85 on a 60 MPH zone going on a downhill. Speeding is speeding but getting/paying for the ticket never feels good.

Sadly when you choose to break a law then that means you acknowledge and accept the potential consequences and ramifications. If you don't want those consequences, then don't break the law.

Sucks though

wait, where were you speeding?
because if it was in a freeway that really does not make any sense

i mean i have noticed that all the freeways in LA have the 65MPH sign posted yet everyone from old civics, trucks and minivans are going around 80MPH

I was cruising down Hwy 1. There weren't too many cars so I stuck out like a sore thumb.

Perhaps, I went against my better judgment.

Phantom Blue Mica. I was one of two cars heading down the freeway at the time and my relative speed to the other car was much faster.

People do it here all the time too, and when there's a cop, they get caught, just because everyone does it does not make it lawful.

If everyone started robbing their neighbors, it wouldn't make it any less of a crime.

I'm not trying to sound like a hypocrite or anything as I've sped and been caught, other times I've gotten away with it, I think that goes for all of us, however I don't really see any more sympathy than "yep, it sucks."

On the bright side, you didn't crash into someone or something at high speed or get rammed by some idiot

Pro-tip: if you decide to speed.. stay behind other speeders

depending on the officer, radar detector might not even do much. sometimes they eye u, then turn on the radar, so by the time u detect anything it's already too late =\

Speed is one those funny things because it can become addictive and in some cars [such as ours] you can hit higher speeds and it will feel like you're going slower than you really are.

The last speeding ticket I got was back in the mid 90's in my Supra.... I miss that car.

I made a mental note to try stay at 65 to 70 normally and if/when I speed to keep it to very short “speed burst” of no more than 80 for a few seconds at a time with clear sight ahead and behind to make sure no police are clocking me.
It's not always easy but my record has been clean for well over 10 years now.
Cheaper insurance rates too!

My 2 cents.

It's also good to know where you can speed. Whenever I take the NJ or PA turnpike, there's usually loads of traffic going 70-80mph.

But I do what Hide says, where I burst to higher speeds whenever I can see for a good distance ahead. It helps when I know it's a long stretch of concrete on both sides.

85 in a 60? That'll get you a ticket. Now you have 18 months to not get another one.

Depends what roads I believe, for city roads, yes, in Florida anyways, but highway, it has to be 50+ and you get a 1,000$ fine + 6 month suspension for first time, 2,500$ + 12 month for 2nd, 5,000$ + 24 months for 3rd, dunno bout 4th time

^ To me that doesnt sound steep enough. 2nd time should be loss of license for 2 years. You dont make the same mistake twice unless you're an idiot in which case you deserve it.

Sarcasm and irony... oh that's funny one. haha.

For me it's "perceived attitude". If you pass by someone quickly, or change lanes quickly, or open up your throttle, then yes the car's attitude "appears" to be aggressive.

Where we live (in British Columbia) if you have a bad driving attitude - blam - you get a ticket: "Aggressive Driving" "Street Racing" "Driving with undue care and attention" - and guess what, the cop doesn't need to radar gun you, he/she just has to say "He was doing so and so" and this is his ticket.

I sometimes wonder why sports cars are even sold in British Columbia. You know all those family vehicles that try to race you? - yup, cop is going to pull you over if you "sound" like your racing a minivan.

So:
You can't accelerate fast..
You can't brake fast..
You can corner fast..
You can't even rev your engine, right Scott?

But ghost cars can tailgate you. Ghost cars will even try to goad you to race. Its really sad.

I dont drive my 8 near as fast as I drove my old Nisaan Maxima. In that car cops usually never even looked at me. When I got the 8 I had to slow myself down. On the highway I set the cruise at 72, speed limit is 65. I do use a radar detector as well, and for the most part around here the cops leave their radar's on all the time. Even when they turn them on/off I usually still get a little blip and I know there is one around.

I do have that occasional burst of speed when I want to pass some joker in the fast lane doing 60, and than he decides to speed up when I try to pass. One time however it was at night, and when I did this, there ended up being a CHP sitting on the side of the road and he stopped me. Never hit me with his radar but it was clear that I was speeding, and I slowed down before he could hit me with the radar. I didn't get a ticket though. Usually the 1st question they always ask is "Do you know why I pulled you over?" My reply is always the same "Because I did something stupid." Being polite will always go a long way as well. I've been pulled over about 5 times in the last 7 years and still have not gotten a ticket.

I have noticed that I get a lot more attention in my 8, than even in my old mustang. Twice in the last few weeks I even had a couple of them try to sneak up behind me to see if they could catch me doing something.

Oops. Not that it matters but I made a typo:

I was going 80 in a 65 MPH zone vs. 85 in a 60 MPH zone.

This.

Got busted 3 weeks after getting my 8 for 68 in a 50 at the bottom of a steep 1/8th mile hill. It was my first time taking the hill in this car and I had no idea it was picking up that quickly or that much until it was too late . Added the cost of my detector to the cost of the ticket. Radar detectors aren't perfect but it'll at least remind you to check your speed when you forget to.

i got busted 2 weeks after buying my 8. i was doing 95 in a 55 and i was still accelerating when i saw the cop. i slammed the brakes and he clocked me at 84.

i think he realized i just bought the car and was showing off to 2 friends so he wrote 74 on the ticket. my first ticket, so i went to court of course. points were removed.

i deserved that ticket like no other. haha.

what are the penalties for 75mph over and 100mph?
