One of my friends has an '05 Inifiniti G35 coupe. He has an automatic but it still goes 0-60 .2 seconds faster than mine. He always talks to me about his car being better, faster, and more luxurious than mine... and it pisses me off. I will admit it probably is more luxurious... actually I know it is, but, to me, my car is better looking and a lot cheaper. He also has the 19" forged aluminum rims, which costed like $2,500 by themselves. I'm running out of things to say to him. Any suggestions?

 

well does he actually know how to drive his car? or more appropriate, do you think you are a better driver than he is? maybe, just maybe, "i'll see you at the track" applies to this one. not a universal answer by any means, as the 8 is not king of the track, but just an idea.

 

The stock RX-8 is slow. Buy a turbo kit.

 

He has a engine three times bigger, more HP more Torque and it is only that much faster?

meh don't sweat it, cause looks are always opinion based therefore it is hard to say that 1 looks better. (though we all know the 8 does )

Take him to the track and the one thing he will have going for him is that he will be very comfortable watching you lap him

 

tell him at least you drive a stick!!

 

You might mention the 9000 rpm redline.

 

You also might mention that he payed $6k more and it only barely outruns the 8.
As far as interiors go...road and track ragged the interior of the G35 when compared to the 8. As a matter of fact their overall ranking was higher on the 8.

 

tell him to open his other 2 doors
or keep the revs at 8500 for 5 mins

Mention that the 9000 revs is not just high, it's the worlds HIGHEST redline - no other production car revs nearly as fast!

You could ask him where HIS redlines, then say "Oh, that's where I downshift to overtake!"

You could also mention you heard the G35 was just a 350Z, softened up for old-folk!

Just tell him you love your car and like it better than the G35. That's all that really matters, some luxury bits and stats on paper don't mean a damn thing if you don't love what you drive. On the other hand, it sounds like you might be trying to convince yourself it's better moreso than him.

 

03's had around a 9k, though the Rx8 goes beyond that.

But now the S2Ks are around 8200.

Always feel like the Rotary revs up faster though.

 

i had heard from the uninformed in the past after telling them the car revs to 9k, "oh, my aunt/uncle/friends friends cousin/etc has an s2000, & it revs to 9000 too!". but as far as i know, its 8k.

still purdy good, but only 8/9ths of our baby!

 

you dont have to tell him anything. he is just jealous because you have a sexier, better looking car and a more unique than his. i see g35's all the time but i sheldom see 8's. he even had to get a set of rims to make his car stand out, even our stock rims are good looking. but if you really have to tell him sometihing tell him thas the 8 has won the sport car of the year for 3 years in a row for a reason? has the g35 won anything? the renesis won the engine of the year in 2003 too.

 

tell him the 8 is more fun to drive, theres nothing like the crisp handling of a light FR car.

and remind him his summer only performance 19" tires are $400 a pop, and only supposed to last 15,000 miles

and remind him hes AT has the inferior 280hp engine, not the 298hp engine that has rev limiter at 7500rpm on the 6mt.

and rx8 has much better brakes, 05 G35 no longer have factory brembos, even though stopping power is on par with the old brembos, the new brakes fade much faster. Brakes on a 05 G35 will almost completely fade away after 5 laps at Tsukuba, while RX8 brakes will be just fine and ready for more.

-btw G35 dosnt barely outruns the 8.., its pretty decisive... some people on g35driver.com have ran 13.8-13.9s quarter miles stock. on normal driving conditions, without a clutch burning burning 8000 rpm launch, which most people dosnt have the skill to pull off. the difference is even bigger. -not that the rx8 is about straight line speed anyways, nor is the G35.

 

I tell them to bite me, since they are obviously trying to compensate for something else if they're so immature they have to badmouth other people's cars.

The 8 is a more unique vehicle, in almost every way. Unusual engine, doors, styling... It's not meant to be a bulky luxury car, just a fun, lightweight sports car. And I've yet to hear anyone complain about the trim level of the car. We have one of the most attractive interiors around!

You might also kindly remind him that there's ALWAYS something faster... Mustang GTs, Subaru STis, Mitsubishi EVOs, Corvettes, Chrysler 300C/Dodge Charger/V-8 Magnum (the 300C being a luxurious car, as well), and those are just the cars in and near his price range...

 

IMO,you shouldn't feel the need to justify your purchases to anyone but yourself.

 

Well, the main thing that pisses me off is that he wanted an RX-8 for awhile, then he changed it a week before he got the G35. Then, he starts callin my car a rice burner because it's made it Japan and it's a Mazda. I'm like your car is Japanese too, and then he goes, "Yeah, but it's an Infiniti and that's a Mazda." And then I start gettin' reeeaaaallly mad and it makes me want to beat the hell out of him and go out and get more mods so I can completely own his ***.

 

The issue is not the cars, but his attitude. Some people do that just to get a response from others. Some people will just "push your buttons" so to speak, no matter what you drive. When it really comes down to it, you both drive very nice cars. Driving would be very boring if we all drove the same kind of cars.

most infiniti owners arnt stuck up like him, in fact infiniti is like one the least recognizable luxury brand, falling way behind lexus, acura, bmw, benz etc. most people that buys infiniti buys it because they make some great cars, (and they make total garbage too, like the QX56).

not for status symbol of owning a luxury car. Infiniti is just a badge, nothing special about a stupid badge. Its the car that matters. Unfortunately there are always bad apples that feels the need to go around trashing other cars. . (There are also rx8 owners that trash other cars too).

like the previous person said, i dont think you should be bothered by it at all. if you like you r car why care about what other people think?
