What would you pay for a "SUPER PAINT JOB"?

What would you pay for a "SUPER PAINT JOB"?
If Mazda were to offer real exotic paint jobs in pearl, etc, that matched the attached sample, and assuming you had to wait an extra 10-12 weeks to get your new RX-8, how much extra would you be willing to pay to get "the color of your dreams"?

As cool as that option may be, I'll stick to black. For some, it may be worth an extra 500-1000 dollars. I would think that most people who want an exotic color scheme would rather customize it themselves, like audio systems. Forget the Bose, if we want high end sound we'll add it ourselves!

Anyway, I wouldn't get an exotic colour simply because:
a) I plan to use the RX-8 as a daily driver. It will get scratches and dings (God forbid).
b) A really rare paint job, like a rare colour or pearl paint or metallic flakes even make it a nightmare to touch-up the paint. You can never get it to look right (and I have done a lot of bodywork too). You either can't get the colour properly blended if its rare, or if its metallic, the flakes don't "align" properly with the factory paint.
The more I think about it, the more I am leaning away from titanium exterior (which I am 90% sure is metallic if its the same paint as on the Mazda6) and leaning towards good old black, or blue depending on how it looks on the car.

My favourite colour!
That Lambo and RX-8 look incredible. A lot like the Imola Orange on the NSX or the JDM S2000 that is my wife's favourite colour. I'd happily pay $1000 for that - but really it should be a standard paint choice on all cars.

Anyone remember the 1996 Mustang Cobra with the "Mystic" special paint? Ford only built 2000. It was basically black with a trick prismatic clearcoat overtop that made the car "change color" depending on the angle of view and available light. The car could simultaneously be dark green, gold, dark red, etc. It actually a pretty sweet paint scheme but, alas, a major pain in the a$$ to repair.
I'll stick to the standard colors!

I've never had to re-paint any of my cars (except the rear bumper of my black Grand Cherokee after an accident). Either the cars were really old and paint was the least of their needs or I only had the car for 3 years or less and never had more than one tiny door ding and no scratches.
As I will buying my next vehicle (probably RX-8) and keeping it for 6+ years the cost/difficulty of repair is a good point. I suppose the low-key yellow is the closest standard colour to the metallic orange in the pics...

i like the paint that mazda is putting on their cars. I really want a red car, but i also like the dark blue that mazda has too. I guess it really will depend on what color looks best on the car. I would like to have a metallic red paint job, but i dont think its availible from anyone yet.

What I care most about in paint is paint quality. I believe my parents VW van has a 7yr rust proof guarantee with its paint job and I know many people with cars that are going on 10 years old without any rust on their cars. My ford escort, on the other hand, is only 5 years old and its got little spots of rust all over it. I think I actually found my first rust spots on it when it was only about 3. To top off the rust the paint also looks horrid on it, it looks like the clear coat has been subjected to acid rain or something (which may be a possibility here). It's got a very rough etched look to it that waxing just cannot take out. I've tried to regularly clean and wax it but to no avail, it just has a cheap paint job. Anyways, since many of you are current mazda owners or have been so in the past, what have been your experiences with the quality of paint on your cars? Does mazda actually advertise any unique systems or warranties they use in rust proofing their cars? I don't know if this means anything but Acura boasts this as their contribution to exterior duribility..." To help ensure the long-term durability of the RSX's fit and finish, virtually every body panel is made of double-sided galvanized steel for enhanced corrosion protection. The lustrous paint finish offers enduring protection and mesmerizing consistency." Thanks --curtlo
