What is wrong with this 8's rear?

What is wrong with this 8's rear?

Hi. I'm new to the forum and am looking at buying a used rx8 as a nice, more reliable replacement for the 6. I have found a good deal for one. Amazing actually. A rx8 fully loaded (even nav) with 35k for $15k at a dealership. But there is something wrong with the rear.




Notice the left side is grey? Could that be because it was in an acident? I would assume a new mazda part would come black.

looks like wax, just get some mothers back to black and rub it off. no biggy, awesome price, get it now!

It could be some dirt of wax, or it could be more. Have you physically seen the car? I would try to get under the car and check for frame damage or take it to a mechanic. Check carfax too, but don't rely on it solely. Otherwise it might just be something that got on the rear bumper

Do The History Check - Get The Vin...and Check It On Carfax!!... Atleast You Wil Find Out Whether It Has Been In A Major Accident Or Not.... When I Was Looking Around To Buy A Rx8....i Did Some Checking On A Couple Of Perfectly Looking 8s And Found Very Disturbing Facts ....... Always Becareful If The Deal Is Too Good To Be True...

^^ WOW that's as hard to read as It Must Have Been TO Type!

Ditto on carfax and get it inspected by a mechie.

I'm thinking that the moron before tried to wax the parts, got one done and went ICK and stopped.

If you look closely at the right side, it looks gray too. That plastic triangle part around the exhaust comes off. The previous owner may have just painted it a lighter color.

It looks like what happen to me, I got some wax on their by accident. Not on the whole thing just a little part. I used some WD-40 and it came right off.

guys, its obvious from the image that the painted part of this bumper is new and there is difference with the car's color.
the grey part is changeable, so the guy replaced the bumper with a new one and didnt replace the exhaust's black plastic.

This bumper looks shiny and new.

If that's the only thing wrong with the car, then go for it. Its not worth the extra $5-10K to get a car with the black tailpipe area! But as many other people have said, check Carfax just to make sure its not salvage or had any *major* work done.

It is faded and there is no real cure. Mothers back to black is a temp solution. The only real fix is replacement. My exhaust shrouds are starting to fade as well. Really it's just cheap plastic as the cause.

Either this or that it was in a rear end accident, and the body shop didnt fully replace the rear under spoiler. It is 3 piece set. I know because i had a shop try to do that to me and it looked similar to this. That exhaust piece is like $40. Hell, you could replace that whole underspoiler with a brand new one and still make out with that price. BUY IT

Oh...and there is a REASON why that car is priced so low. Any other dealership would have at least 18-19k on that car. Even if the car was in small accident it would be worth it as long as the chassis and alignment is all ok. Be sure to get this checked before buying the car, as well as getting carfax AND prodding the dealer for clues of deception. Good Luck!!!

Exactly right. I think you'll see this more and more often as these cars get older. This is probably the worst case I've seen to date though. The black plastic under the rear bumper is made of a slightly different material (not as heat resistant?) that is not as prone to fading. That explains the color difference. Based on this alone, I see no reason to suspect accident damage.

haha, looks like the previous owner waxed it by mistake and continued waxing it to provide an even coat.

OMG look at that yellow spot on the tire! OMG should i bring it back to the dealer? Should i buy it with the yellow stain? Will my tires blow and flip my car and land on a bunch of elementary school kids on a field trip!??!
