the gray plastic part is called the exhaust shroud, and they cost $40 to replace.

^ that's not from mazda dealer I assume?

thanks for all the replies. I took a look at it today and nothing looks wrong with it but the guy wouldn't let me drive it or anything since I'm 18. (and yes I am actually paying for most of it since I'm a pharm tech). However, he showed me the carfax and there is nothing wrong with it, it had 1 owner, and the dealer seems to have had it since may. I guess that's why its priced so low but I'm hoping it still runs right since I haven't actually seen it run. But it does have warranty and this is a well-known, chain dealer so I'm sure it does...

and yes it is manual. I'm going to go drive it with my dad on saturday. and that grey might be wax but I noticed the bottom of it under the exhaust was burned bad. you could easily feel the difference. is this normal?

yeah, thats what my local mazda dealer charges. They might be giving me discounts though, since I heard they're $60 from someone else's dealer.

Like the others have said - it's faded in the sun . Not a problem to replace but look carefully at the rest of the car and see what else has faded from being left outside 24/7 .

If that's a Pearson car, you must be in Richmond too . They've been okay to me, except for a fight over tires once, and that's a really great price.
