yup, and it breaks down after 100 miles, uses as much oil as gas (that's a lot), and will blow up the instant you try and put any sort of FI on it.

I think it does. It proves that mazda can extract tons of power from it. Mazda could of used the v6 but they didn't. wonder why????

If you swap the MS6 engine into a RX-8 then it would be called a RX-8 anymore.
Hence the RX means Rotary Sports car. Rotary engine only. So the chances of that happening is like snowballs in hell.

Balance?

One of the most important design aspects of the 8 is its balance. Sticking a MS6 engine in it would likely upset that balance and ruin the car.

If you want a hot rod without regard to balance then buy an old mustang and mod it.

Applying AWD to the RX8 would be nice, but I think RWD is good.

I'm thinking about buying one, but I want something with good low end torque. I had a modified RSX and I hated having to rev pass 4k to move.
I test drove a turbo 6 too......I hated it. The six speed manual offered very little engine braking, it was driving an auto in that regard. Seemed like you had to backpedal two or three gears to slow it down. (I don't use the brake pedal much).

Chances of Mazda ever putting that engine into the RX-8? Zero percent.

This thread is ridiculous. There's never going to be anything but a rotary in an RX, ever. Period. If you don't like this one, get over it and buy a different car.

Jeez.

Question

OK I'm confused.

Mazda has a 244hp, 2.3 turbo w/ AWD and the 6 spd auto - it's called the ... ta da..CX-7.

Does the "X" mean it's suppose to have the rotary in it or perhaps the 2.3 turbo may end up in another well known "X" model! Augh!!!!!!!!

Upgraded AT, more HP, and low end torque? Aren't those all of the complaints that keep being made about what needs fixing on the RX-8?

I believe you should be referring to the"R"... not the "X", considering there are cars like the mx-5 with no rotaries -_-

novasian, the rotary engine is easier to fix in terms of complexity of the engine, it's harder in that the few things that can go wrong like a blown apex seal require you to remove the whole engine, not that this is a common occurence on a stock engine. but on the whole, there is less that can go wrong with the engine and rotaries can't have catastrophic failures like broken connecting arms or a bent valve or a shredded crankshaft, they just slowly wear out. they can explode... but then so do piston engines. It might be a little hard to find a mechanic willing to fix it, but repairs are less time consuming and you can do most of them yourself if you have the means.

if you want the back seats you might try the infiniti G35 but it costs 10 grand more and the rear headroom is bad, oh and the handling isn't as good either.

Buy a MPS 6 and just change all body fenders to make it look like the 8. Problem solved.

Both excellent. RX8 easier to drive fast; more forgiving. S2K requires a bit more thought near its limits.

The "R" stand for "rotary" and the "X" stands for x-treme. No one buys anything that's not x-treme these days.

Doesn't the X mean "eXperiment", ie, Rotary Experiment...?

Nobody knows what the "X" stands for. Oh wait, that's not true, Mazda knows what it stands for but they're not telling.

If you don't like taching out engines to get power and need four seats than go for a G35c or 3 series. Personally, I like the highwinding aspect so its no bother to me.

Somebody commented on why the Mazdaspeed6 uses the 2.3 MZR instead of the 6 cylinder...the 6 cylinder is a MNAO only option, the rest of the world only gets the 2.3 for the Mazda6. It makes perfect economic sense for Mazda to use this option as we also see the 2.3 Turbo debuting throughout Mazda's line-up. Modifying the 6 cylinder for the NA market only makes no sense.

Rotary EXperimental (to be precise)

And chances of Mazda putting the 2.3 in the 8? Never happen.

RX, does not = Rotary Experimental.

R = Rotary
X = Sport

Rotary Sport Eight = RX-8

After looking a bit further, I'll edit above. I take it that originally the X = experimental. But since Mazda has moved away from this as we also have had the MX-5, MX-3, CX-7, etc...and now "Sport" is accurate to X.

The only thing that needed fixing on the 8 has been fixed...the shitty 4spd automatic. It's a naturally aspirated 1.3L rotary engine, and this is exactly how one is supposed to perform. The only other thing that needs fixing with respect to the car is the public's misunderstanding on how a rotary works. They can only generate so much torque when NA, if you want more, you need to go FI. The 8 is not going to get some magical increase in low end power just because the public wants it, it's physically impossible (without FI).

(IMO)

I guess I should just go test drive it and see if it's to my liking. Thanks for the feedback.
