What's the deal?

I see so many complaints about the RX8. The low gas milelage, flooding, the faulty engine, and the lack of power. I dont understand why so many people have these problems. I bought my 8 Last year, It's an 04 with 4800 miles when I bought it. The dealer was the owner and he babied the car. There were a few mods that he did. The racing beat flash, the racing beat air system and the racing beat exhaust. Before I bought this car I had a 91 Rx7 n/a I did some mods and drove the car for over 75,000 miles before I needed a new engine. There was 149,000 when it went. I drove it hard sometimes but I respected the car. I had it for over 9 years. I sold it last year and still got 3000 for it.

The way I look at it, The rotary motor will last if you treat it well. Change the oil, dont over rev it all the time and remember it's limitations. I noticed with the set up I have it's easy to redline the car without even pushing too hard. My RX7 was hard to redline. Maybe because it was loud.

In closing, I have not been beaten by any Civics, BWM's, Lexus, and so on. The car has plenty of power it's all in how you drive it. Im not stupid either. I know Corvettes, BWM M series, and any Mercedes AMG series will leave me in the dust. Please dont insult me or the RX8 with this Chevy Colbalt crap. Learn to drive the rotary and you will be impressed on what it can do. Remember sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you.

I think people just have trouble taking care of it. There's a lot of people that beat the crap out of their 8's...just like they did with their Firebird, Camaro, etc. Mine has had no problems, but has been well cared for with just over 40k on my 04 now. I really have no complaints...

Yes your right.

If you understand how to treat the car you will have better performance. I laugh when I hear the lack of performance. My 91 N/A had a racing beat motor, exhaust, light fly wheel and it would not even come close to my 8.

By the way

Since the economy crashed I had to take a job that was far from my house. The 8 has 26,000 plus mileage on it now with no problems.

Mine just coughs, sputters, and then stalls..

And if I do let out the clutch slowly enough to get going, I get that wonderful burning clutch smell

80? That's all? Actually, the 8 will do 89 MPH in 3rd gear.

I find it more satisfying redlining in 1st, and then dumping it into second and making the wheels spin and then push on to redline 2nd

Not sure, I'm a pretty defensive driver, way too many aggressive morons in their SUVs where I live.

Also, you don't need to make a new post to reply to other people's posts

I just meant you can multi-quote posts from people by clicking the icon on the posts you want to reply to and then click quote after you're done selecting them

Yes, what is the deal indeed. Here is the explanation.

Some people, once they start driving rx8 whatever, just start to see neon lines, blurry lights,
and strange checkerboard patterns by the time they get to the freeway onramps.

Disappointed this, dealer did that, just don't matter when its life or death.

By the time their normal reasoning senses come back online, they're
already parked and can't remember what happened last 20 mins.

Then they go read some rx8clubb before bed, and get totally
bewildered.

These two types of people, are not driving the same type
of rx89.

If you have to ask yourself, "Are these jokers out there really
driving the same vehicle as me?" Then obviously the
answer is No! No they are not!

RX8 is not your daddy's rotary! Get real!

The main thing I agree with is our cars power, its not as fast as the competitors and it is underpowered, but its fast enough.

Its just a tricky car to drive in a straight line becuase of its powerband.

Bravo!!!

It takes skill to drive a car at high revs, It's not really the fact that the car lacks power, it's more that it takes skill to drive it fast. The RX8 is not a muscle car. You dont hit the gas and it goes. Its like the earlier Porsche cars. You need to know how to drive to reach the crux of their performance.

Why can't it go fast on fourth when I am loping around on the street at 3000rpm to save gas? I am so lazy to change gears.
Any engine that doesn't have a variable cam timing change is slow.... wait it does have a camshaft right?
You mean I have to pop the hood and check oil? Doesn't it not have a computer like a bimmer to tell me when oil is low? It even tells me when to back to the BMW mothershop too!
