Whats The Fastest Car You've Had?
#10
RX8 is the fastest car I've ever owned.
Driven: Three different Ruf-modified 911's, Viper GTS, GNX, 2nd-gen M3, modded 944 Turbo, Cobra replica w/427, and an assortment of Italian exotics that I never drove over 60mph or so (in parking lots!). Fastest and most terrifying RIDE I ever had was in a late-80's vintage Camry taxicab in Montreal... Driver was obviously the reincarnation of Gilles Villeneuve.

I've ridden in the following:
1963 406 Ford Galaxie 500
1963 427 Ford Galaxie 500 (fastback)
1968 428 Ford Mustang CobraJet (I think it was a '68)
1963 426 Dodge (wedge engine, not the hemi)
Interestingly, I don't think any of these cars were faster or quicker than the RX-8, and certainly, none handled or stopped like the 8.
Beyond that, the fasted piston engined vehicle I've ever ridden in (flown in, actually) is a Lancair IV-P, powered by a twin-turbo 350 HP engine. With an empty weight of approximately 2100 lbs. the acceleration at takeoff is very impressive, not to mention a cruising speed of well over 300 MPH. And it can carry 4 people!

Owned or Driven:
Owned:
Current car - 2004 Mazda RX-8 (although my 1985 Mustang GT was no slouch either)
Driven for an apprciable time
Street Category:
- 2000 Lamborghini Diablo
- 2001 BMW M5
- 2004 BMW M3 convertible
- 2005 Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG
Race Cars:
- Richard Petty Driving Experience NASCAR-type race car
- Circa 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora-powered World Sports Car GTP Spice race car (think Jeremy Dale and you have it right - in fact it was his backup car.
- My friend's 1967 Corvette drag car with a full-race setup, blower, the whole 9 yards. He let me drive a run in it for fun - he turns 9.87 second quarter miles - he turned the boost down on the blower to almost nothing, set the progressive clutches for me, and let me motor off - even "detuned" to keep me from killing myself I ran a 1/4 mile in the upper 10's - freaking amazing car.
