Found this snippet at wardsauto.com:
"As a result, the new engine meets Europe's Stage IV emission standards, while achieving an estimated 23.5 mpg (10L/100 km) in city driving, up from RX-7 levels of just more than 18 mpg (13L/100 km). Mazda expects to raise fuel economy another 30%, to 30 mpg (7.8L/100 km), in 2005. And by expanding the intake port area, the engine runs smoothly at 9,000 rpm — already a rotary hallmark."

What kind of fuel will the RENESIS require? /me hopes 87 octane will be ok.
Sorry if I'm asking too many newbie questions... feel free to tell me to bugger off if this has been covered before too. :p

that's true... even though the compression ratio in the turbos was less than the NA's, the applied compression under boost was pretty high, so with that heat you needed the higher flashpoint...
anyways, this car has a what, 10.*:1 compression ratio?? i haven't read a spec sheet for a long time....
i know that most econo four-bangers run 10:1 compression ratios for the most part these days, and thrive on 87-89 octane fuel (higher flashpoints acutally HARM these engines...)
i suppose that the 8 won't need anything beyond the high 80's as well...
