whats the point of buying expensive rims?

As long as they are JWL certified than you have nothing to worry about...you'll get strength and quality......Like the Enkeis i plan getting JWL certfied...Just like our OEM wheels they are also JWL certified and so are VOLKS/ADVANs!!!

I have seen lots of cheap wheels break. just like i seen alot of cheap eletronic products break fast also . i guess the person needs to ask them selves, should they go cheap and chance that the product doesnt break any time soon, or pay the xtra knowing it will last them alot longer.
but there is nothing wrong with going cheap, i just dont see my self spending on something taht cheap knowing the life on the product is short , when compared to a product that is extra cost.

our stock wheel are actually pretty strong and light for the size. Its 1 piece forged so its good.
When it comes to wheels I wouldn't want cheap crap. but I dont need some crazy expensive **** like those Carbon Fiber wheel thats like 2 K a piece.
Im happy with my Mazdaspeed II wheels

on my lunch break, i ususaly hang out a used tire shop across the way. the old guy there is one cool Mopar fan. any how This is the reason why you dont buy cheap. It doesnt help that this person is driving on rims, but that is besides the point.

I used to think as long as they were light they'd be fine, and got a 300 set of light wheels. Then one day while out driving I learned the difference between those light wheels and a more expensive set when one of my front wheels began to crack and come apart as I drove down the road. That was a scary thing and now I'd rather save up and get a nice set of OZs or something rather then take that risk again.

yup, buddy of mine had something similar happen in his Chevy Tahoe (that thing was REALLY nice)
He was making a left hand turn onto a freeway onramp and the front right wheel SNAPPED. Tahoe took a nosedive into the ground, wheel went rolling down the street, and my buddy was horrified at the thought of the damage to that control arm, brakes, suspension, etc.
Not a pretty sight to see

mine wasn't that bad, the rim where the bead seats came off and you could see stress fractures in the wheel once it was cleaned. Tire shop said it looks like the wheel just came apart of it's own accord and not from hitting anything too, thought it may have been a pot hole at first since I do live in New Hampshire (the Granite State), we get lots of rocks and all that work up through the road and frost heaves.

Ive only bought 2 sets of rims. 1 for a Talon b/c the stockers were bent and causing uneven tire wear and same reason with a stratus i still have, lots of potholes here in pa during winter Talon was purchased for looks/project, Stratus for commuting/cheapest deal as I couldnt find 3 used stockers.
The Talon got ALTs from japan which were a bit more than some and were good cast wheels, a bit heavy but no bending. The Stratus got AZUL Razrs from wheelnext.com w/ Nexen N3000 tires for the cheapest deal I could find anywhere on the net $633 m/b/delivered. They havent bent yet and get lots of looks so outside of a forged wheel Idont see the point of spending alot more $ than required. Your new rims are gonna get fucked up in a few years anyway so unless you have $ to burn why go crazy

it all comes down to preference. Me personally, I would never put rota's on my rx8, on my civic I would, but I wouldn't put rota's on my 8. I'd be too embarassed to say , yea, I got rota's. Some people like quality parts and brand names, others (like me) don't like cheap knock offs. Don't get me wrong, rota's look cool, and will get the job done, i might even get some for my crx, but I would never throw some on my 8. And please don't fake the funk and put real stickers on your rota's, that is seriosuly just wrong
I was thinking of buying Volks for my 8 but im going with a set of rotas instead, why throw away money? I rater buy Rotas + good R Tires, instead for expensive rims and low quality tires as alot of ppl do.

Had a friend who bought a new Ford Tarus and the rims, ceramic type, broke while she was on the freeway!
Don't know about better rims on the 8, but on the old red 323, I simply wore out the rims and had to replace them - chose to go bigger, wider, and stronger because I thought maybe that was one of the reasons the 8 feels so good! Made a great improvement on response and control - should have done it years ago! Also added new front struts and that was a plus... Think I will upgrade the breaks and headlights next...
I think they really did well with the current 8 set up!
