wheel hop
New to the Forum. Just bought my '04 RX-8 last thursday.
So I'm at a stop sign, at a dead stop. I rev the motor to about 8k and dump the clutch in first. The car shake's so violently i'm suprised nothing broke. The entire car hop'd so bad that it came out of gear!!
Why does it do this? Is this common? Do I need stiffer springs in the back?
I figured I had the rpm's high enough. It always breaks the tires loose in first when I'm movin, but it hates it from a dead stop.

doesn't mean it was good for the s-10 either. but yes, it will. 5-7k seems to be the optimal launch rpm. did you disable dsc/tcs before you attempted this maneuver?
oh, and doing high rpm clutch drops will kill your clutch, and possibly other tranny components. unless you are a fan of doing transmission work, or just have more money than you know what to do with to pay to have it fixed, i wouldn't make a habit out of such activity.

This muthafucka can't be serious! Are you a ****** ***? This has to be a ****** joke. No one can't be this ignorant. If anyone I knew anyone that was this dumb I'd recommend castration as to not pollute the gene pool. I won't even give any real advice, because I am truly convinced that someone ****** with the forum.

You obviously has no or very little understanding of the technology your abusing. If the whole car shook AND popped outta gear you dropped the clutch way way way too quick. You're lucky you didn't break anything. I don't know if there is term that would describe something more intense than a "dump"...how about, "jettison"? Yea..I think that works. And even if you are going to launch at 8K, be a bit more gentle, it can be done and even if you do it well, you WILL still cause abnormal wear on it. You'll notice the flowery smell of popouri once you get moving.
bottom line.....you shouldn't be dumpin clutches in the first place. Secondly, since the RX8 doesn't have much torque it wasn't designed to have hard/firm clutch handle the type of transfer that you're used to having. Third, please please be gently, we love our babies and we don't want to see anyone in the brotherhood getting towed or have issues.
welcome to the club.

"With a tire-smoking launch (best times were achieved dropping the clutch at about 7500 rpm), the RX-8 in our testing sees 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and charges through the quarter in 14.5 sec. at 95.6 mph — a match for the Porsche Boxster and certainly quick by modern sports-car standards"
So I guess won't be renewing your subscription to Road and Track?

Odds are, if they were "tire smoking" launches, they weren't trying to do it with the traction control on. Once the tires start spinning, and the clutch is fully engaged to the flywheel, then you aren't roasting the clutch anymore. If you dump the clutch with the traction control on and it starts firing the brakes and cutting ignition, you could probably save time and just take a screwdriver to the disk and put sand in the tranny case.

2) People have had success with rear strut tower bars or undercarriage braces. Of course you could always go for the full suspension upgrade.
