Wheels for winter
Is there a place to rear wheels for winter tires for a reasonable cost (18 inch)? Not sure that is possible but need to plan for this coming year although it won't be driven on purpose when it snows, only if we get caught in it ,other wise it will be in the garage nice and warm. ers

<looks at the Calendar> Ummm, ok, nothing like planning ahead I guess... Kazeras, Enkeis, or Konigs are cheap and will suit your purpose. Check out discounttiredirect and tirerack for some good package prices. Also, you won't find better snowtires than Nokians and if I recall people were able to use 17s in most cases.

Plan on buying 4 wheels and tires. They no longer recommend putting just tires on the rear. The performance tires we have are useless in the cold even. Look at the regional forms under Canada for good posts on this.

Please do a search for 'winter tire' in the Tires and Wheels section of the forum, and also in the Canada regional section. There are quite a few extensive threads with all the details on which wheels fit, sizes, tires, prices, etc.
Oh, yeah - you need 4. Winter tires on the rear are great for getting the car moving - how are you planning to stop and steer?

Gordon

If I decide to go the Omicron route will all-season Pirellis, may want to sell my 17" Fox Sport2 wheels with Dunlop M3 run-flat snows, only about 3K miles on 'em. Great in snow and ice but the changeover's a pain considering how far south we live ....
