ummm, if our cars aren't being built until june, that means the earliest for first batch is august... I don't think that can be correct.
please don't let it be correct.

This is the mail about [RX-8 announcement exhibition] sent to Japanese pre-order owners from Japan MAZDA.
It was counted down up to the RX-8 announcement.
An idea and demand are received in order to heap up with you the exhibition which can also be called the birthday! The propriety of realization does not ask. Please bring near the idea which congratulates the "eight" on birthday by all means.
Questionnaire deadline: March 19, 2003
my guess...
[Questionnaire deadline: March 19,]
[RX-8 exhibition: April 4(Friday)] (mazda say, exhibition is Weekday)
[RX-8 Delivery Begin: April 11]
It's just my hope...Japan MAZDA does not yet teach to me about[the day] .

They're talking about July for the first UK *demonstrators*.
Damn shame they couldn't squeeze out a few more RHD cars before moving onto the USA, but maybe they want to do the first European allocation in one big batch.

2862 cars went under when the ship sank; volvos, etc. I was told this was a midsize ship. I called a shipping company and he said it takes about 12 days for a ship to come from Japan; he was the person that said that was a mid size ship that sank. If Mazda plans on selling 60,000 RX8s next year, that is over 1,000 per week they can build. I still want delivery in April. If Job 1 is March 14, I don't see a problem. Plenty of time to make 1000 RX8s, load them and get them to the west coast and then down to the Gulf coast for Texas.

Realistic arrival date
Keep in mind that the spec sheet shows it was updated 1/30/03. That was a couple weeks before the actual engine production began, and about a month before the Japanese production began. I still think if your order says "Apr/Wk 1" that your car won't begin production until then and you still need to add 5 weeks minimum from the production date. Reminds me, there's had been discussion within the last 2 months about the "45 days within production" - I think that's still an estimate - based on our Mazda sending confirming letters out mid-Jan to Mid-Feb (mine's dated 2/21) that means actual production may be starting between tomorrow and early April (mine works out to be 4/14).
I'm sure the first to get their next letter about production beginning will post about it; and IMHO I think it will be soon and will occur somewhere close to when the US options / accessories are announced.
p.s. still hoping for the 6CD and a gift on the lines of the Germans'.

Not sure if this applies to the US market but there is a delay due to demand on the Renesis engine in Japan. They can't build engines to keep up with supply in the JDM market.
We got put out by 1-2 months

I live in Westlake Village, CA which’s about eighteen miles away from Port Heuneme…does that make me the forum member closest to the North American arrival point???
I didn’t preorder a RX-8 as my ’87 RX-7 still runs great (263,000 miles on the original engine…you guys are in for a real treat) but should it die, I’ll pick one up.
Congratulations to all those who’ve placed a claim on the road candy that’s pulling into my town.

Mine is believed to be on arriving 3rd week July. I wish we could get as much info on the east coast arrivals as the west coast folk have!
Sounds like they need a fourth person building the Renesis engines. Going from memory - didn't the Mazda factory PR say only 3 people are building them?

The first vehicles (the ones "on water" as of two weeks ago) are slated to hit dealerships July week 3 or 4 according to Mazda inbound lists. Our initial pull will be three vehicles, one of which Mazda has designated as a demonstrator that cannot be sold for six months, with 25 more to follow over the course of the following months. Every dealer should be roughly the same, depending on how long it takes to get the vehicles from the port to the dealer.
