When does the low gas light go on?

Any experience as to how much gas remains when the yellow light goes on? It seems to go on early and I've run it to the E line and put in 14 gallons. This means about 2 gallons remain at the E line. Yellow light came on much earlier for me. I drove maybe 20 miles with it on. Any chance it goes from yellow to red? I didn't want to run any lower without more experience.

Someone on this site ran out of gas - even twice, I think.
He did not mention anything about the light turning red.

My light goes on usually at 13.2 to 13.5 gallons. In other words, if I go to the gas station asap after the light goes on, it usually takes 13.2 to 13.5 gallons to fill up.

Cool Out of gas.....

I find the light comes on after I have used 50 litres (13.2 US gallons/11 UK gallons), which would leave about 10 litres (2.5 US/2 UK)

So you can work out how far you have left on your 2.5 gallons, but you should make a habit of refilling at yellow for the longevity of your fuel pump. It is a high pressure submersible pump that uses the liquid as a coolant, and running dry can also cause 'overspeed' wear when the pump races.
