When is it a good time to start visiting dealers who want to get rid of 08 RX8s?
2009 is around the corner.. well not really, but mazda dealers are going to want to make room for those new 09 RX8's. My question is, when will it be the best time to start visiting those dealers who are anxious at making room for those new 09 RX8's and just dont want the older 08 RX8's around?
By the way, how low do you guys think I should go when negotiating for an 08? Should I mention anything about the new 09 RX8's at all? Maybe as like, a push over the edge
Any ideas would be great!

My 8, a 2004 4AT Grand Touring w/ Sports Suspension, moonroof, leather with 8,400 miles sat at a dealership from the first of January to when I bought it in early May.
I believe the price started at $16,500 and by the time I showed up I was able to talk them down to $13,800.

I bought my 06 in March of 07 and got money off from both the dealer incentives and MNAC for fianancing through them (they held the paper for all of about 3 days before my bank took over, still got my money off for fianancing through MNAC) and then the manager just kept shaving money off the longer i stayed.

It depends, how exacting do you want to be as far as options. The prices will be LOW around the first of the year, but you will have to get the cars that jackasses ordered with all of hte port accessories. If you go out now, you will be able to get whatever model you want, with pretty much whatever options you wnat in pretty much any color you want. The longer you wait, the more the correctly ordered vehicles will be disappearing.

No doubt they'll be even more eager to move the 08's once the 09's start appearing on the lot in decent numbers.
It is funny in a way that the day has come where you can use gas mileage as a bargaining tool.
Wow, if I had just waited a year... my 6 would be paid off now and I'd be up for a hell of a deal on an RX8. Sigh...

Looks like there may be some good deals coming up on 40th anniversary models. If you check inventory levels, every dealer has at least one. I think i counted around 10 of them at Atlanta dealerships... hard to believe it was a limited (1000) model run.

Contrary to what most people will tell you,
There is no single day out of the year that a dealership is more eager to sell you a car than today
Yep, you read that right. . . . TODAY!!!!!!
Now, incentives may change, making the price a little better. But there is no time during the year that is any better than any other time.
But if you want to motivate a dealership, tell them you will buy it TODAY.
It is sad that most people, even the educated ones, believed a salesman when they gave them a day, or time of month, or whatever. It is all just a farse to trick you in to buying a car at that time. If it is the end of a month ; "Oh yes mr customer, the end of the month is the best time to buy a car."
If it is the beginning of the month; "yes mr customer, the beginning of the month is the best time to buy a car."
If it is summer time
if it is winter time
if it is the beginning of a model year
if it is the end of the model year.

I disagree. Every once in a while you can catch a dealer on the truly right day...
Mazda, as well as many other manufacturers has volume based incentives. If you are lucky enough to catch one a few cars away from reaching a plateau, they will make outrageous deals. I worked at a dealership that bought three Dodge Stratus' off itself, for service loaners, for FREE. We had a big fat $1000/car number times 60+ cars, and we were three away at closing time. We had three hours until midnight to punch three more cars. The owner called and offerred a sollution....
I leased a car off a dealer I was working at in an 11th hour deal when I was still a salesman and had already sold three cars that day... we were still two away... A sales Manager looked at me and said "I'll buy one if you buy one... " We each bought them $5000 back of invoice before incentives.

It does happen, but that is just luck of the draw. You may happen to be there when they really want to make a goal or bonus, but the chances of that are very slim. I mean, if you really want to get technical, go when one of the managers is about to blow out (quit), I bought a used car for $1 that way.
This guy is asking when is the best time of day/week/month/year to start shopping.
The answer is; Any day

I agree completely with that... I call those deals wildcards when helping people on this baord... there is really no predictable manner, unless the manager tells you directly, which isn't that uncommon.

And a much smaller selection... again I go back to how important is selection for you. I remember FAR before the '07's really got "hot" incentives, the selection(at least here in MD, was MISERABLE). Port accessories ruin a good car, and many dealers have no clue how to order cars.

That statement is more true than most people could even imagine.
It is a tough job to do the ordering, but you would think at least one dealership would get it right, even just by luck.
