When passing another 8 owner...

I wouldn't be so quick to pigeon-hole middle aged folks as non-enthusiasts. In fact, I think it would be pretty difficult to own an RX-8 without being an enthusiast.

I acknowledge every 8 driver that I see I have gotten a number of nods from people just stopping next to me, A few roll down the window and get a beautiful car. I even got a nice car from a guy passing my driving a Lamborghini Mercielago. funny thing was we both had the same expression on our face their, and both said hte same thing as we passed.
I wave, thumbs up, nod and roll down the window and shout out nice car to other 8 owners. I have also had a number of great conversations in the parking lot with other owners. If I see one in a parking lot I try to park next to them. So far I am 3 for 3 with parking next to them

I like the sign language for 8, but you could be mistaken by the idiot in the truck/SUV next to you!
In 5 weeks of ownership, I've only encountered one 8 - a winning blue 8 at a stoplight, the owner of which studiously ignored me while we sat waiting for our respective lights to go green.
I did park next to a red 8 - when you have a choice of parking spots, and there's one next to another 8, what else would you do? Made a pretty sight - a red and a black next to each other, pointing in opposite directions ...

I've gotten two or three responses here in Orlando (UCF area)...first one was from a Titanium and the most recent one was from a guy in a S. Silver on my way back from class today. I don't think he noticed me until the last second because as I passed he wheeled around hard enough that it looked like he was about to fall out of the car. I got a kick out of that :D at least he noticed my wave!

I haven't seen more than a dozen or so 8's since I've been drving mine and I get a wave or something each time. I too think it's fun havin a car where this can be done like a Wrangler or something. I know I'd help out any 8 owner anytime, thats nice that guy let in another 8 in heavy traffic--round here no lettin in! think that goes for everywhere?

I try and give a quick double beep of the horn when passing fellow RX drivers. However, the other day I freaked a female driver of a red 8 when I chased up behind through heavy traffic her to say "hi". She made several quick turns and bolted down a side street which happened to be the same street I turn on to go to work. I'm sure she thought I was following (stalking) her but I just trying to be friendly.

A quick double beep for me as well. In the early '70s, when the Celica was new, all the owners did that everywhere. No one didn't respond. It was so much fun. We had our own beep-beep club without even having the internet.

A simple wave and I usually get a wave back. I can recall 2 definite ignorers and 4 or 5 positives in 3 months of driving. My dad recalls the same comraderie with his VW beetle in 1960 LA.

Man... the 8/rotorheads are nice around Socal. I was at autobacs parked next to a firstgen, and the guy left a note on my car saying nice ride. Not only that, but just about any Rx-* owner has been pretty friendly with a wave or at slow speeds... "nice ride".
