Where do i put the front liscense plate?

I've heard that in the event of an accident or suddent stop--if the lic. plate is just placed on the dash against the windshield--the plate then becomes a missle hazard or decapitation device...
I havent received my plates yet, but when I do...its going where its supposed to go! In the glove box.

It doesn't seem to cover anything

The universal plastic bracket that Pep Boys sells is a lot better than the dealer one because it allows you to mount the plate slightly lower. It keeps the top of the plate away from the front paint which reduces the bucktooth look of the factory plate holder.

There are two license plate DIY's in the tech forums. One is the Evo bracket method. The other shows how to move the stock bracket down. You just unbolt it from the grill, move it down one cell, then screw it in place with some #10 self-tapping screws the same length as the original capscrews. Centers the plate in the grill, away from the paint. Just did it to mine - really quick and easy.

I mounted mine like the Evo method only I did a simpler install. It looks the same, however it puts the plate very low. I always have to remind mechanics before going onto a lift. This is also illegal in NJ because it's supposed to be 12" from the bottom of plate to road (i think). Mine now has 5" clearance. So I could get ticketed but the install looks like it was a factory install to the non RX 8 person.

There's a pouch on the back of the passenger's seat that fits it quite nicely. That way it's right next to you in case you get a cop that actually questions it. But it does depend on the local laws.
Plate in the window becomes dangerous if your passenger doesn't have a seatbelt on, and goes crashing throught the windshield. But then, if that happens the passenger gets f'd up anyway.
