Where do you put your oil bottle?

I just purchased my RX8 and have read the FAQ about adding oil every second fuel up or so. Where do you store your oil bottle in the car? I might be a little **** at this point, but I am putting it into a ziploc freezer bag wrapped in paper towels into the center pass through between the back seats. Any better ideas on where to stash the dino-lube?

I strap it in next to the tire repair kit in the trunk with paper towels & a spout - I looked at that spot under the hood, but read some posts about heat issues and decided not to risk a melted bottle and a huge mess.

I buy the 5 quart bottles from Walmart and I keep it strapped in where my tire inflater kit is located in the trunk.

I hope you are checking the oil level prior to just adding oil every 2-3 fuel ups to see if oil is even needed. Not sayin ur some uber noob who dont know that, i just didnt want you to think the 8 AUTOMATICALLY needs oil every 2-3 fuel ups, thats all. I have gone wayyy over 2-3 fill ups without needing to add any oil. Royal Purple FTMFW bitches!

LOL, congrats on the new 8 man

Just to be safe, I have been "blowing out the carbon" for my first three tanks of gas, and have used a weee bit of oil. I think that has to do with my foot being on the floor way too often.

Thanks for all of the advice. I really like the "built in" under the hood option. I will have to look into that.

I thought I would miss my old car, but I havn't. This car is just too much darn fun!

Yup, same here...........The tire repair kit, a quart of oil, a spout (in a Ziploc) one clean microfiber cloth (in a Ziploc) and a bottle of NXT Quick Detailer, contained in the strap.

The rear seat console thing in the center of the back seats (that is removable). I keep it in the locked position so that the kids don't open it. I wrap the bottle up in a towel along with the funnel and keep them in there.

Although, I am really liking the under the hood idea. But then I'd have to go to two places to get my towel and my funnel...

I don't think I would ever want a bottle of oil in an engine compartment that gets super hot.

People act like the car drinks oil like a fat kid eats cake. Unless you are going on a road trip or tracking your car, there isn't any need to keep oil in the car. Its not like it can't wait till you get home to add oil. The dipstick has 1.8 quarts from the empty line to full line. Just check your oil regularly, if it gets near the middle of the dipstick, fill it up when you get home.

Juice speaks wisely. I have a quart in a ziplock bag in the trunk, but I put it there when I first got Zoomy and succumbed to the "Gotta carry spare oil" mania. With these cars using a quart (maybe two if you hit it right) between oil changes, and there being almost two quarts between full and low on the dipstick, finding some of the right grade is never a panic situation.

Finding FL22 if you need to top off coolant can, however, get entertaining.

Ken
