Where to purchase the RX-8 inexpensively?
Hello,
Looking at a previous thread it looks like most people are paying MSRP, but some are getting off a little bit cheaper.
I am willing to fly somewhere and purchase, or even ship if it makes a difference in price.
Can anyone recommend a good place to get the RX-8 more inexpensively?
Also, it looks like Canada is even cheaper. One post mentioned under 25,000 (US). Does anyone know why it wouldn't be a good idea to go up to Canada to purchase?
Thanks,
Alex

Welcome to the forum.
If you want to get it substantially cheaper than MSRP, you should wait 6 months to a year. As of right now there is a large demand for the RX-8, as with any new car, so dealers can sell them for MSRP without a problem. You would be hard pressed to find it well under MSRP anywhere. If there is a dealing anywhere that may be selling it for under MSRP than the shipping cost would offset the savings. As for $25,000, they may be talking about the auto base model that has only 210 HP. Unless you are willing to wait, you will most likely pay close to MSRP.

I agree...
I must agree with Mr. Ball, Waiting is the best option.
I am in Canada, Edmonton area, the list price is a little cheaper but I am sure you will run into all sorts of taxes and fees when you get back to your home state and try to register it - it probably meets the Canadian standards for crash resistance, but does not have the 'stamp' that the U.S. would look for. You could find yourself getting 're-certified' at great cost.
We all have to face the fact that, like the new Bug, the PT Cruiser and the S2000, the '8' will be sitting in rows on dealers lots, by the end of 2004.

As far as the US, waiting is of course a no brainer, but if you want a good deal now, wait 30 days after delivery starts and then find the most rural dealer you can who is about to pay his first month fee to "floor plan" the car that nobody ordered, but he had to buy if Mazda was ever going to ship him the trucks, SUVs and minivans that they need. I have the invoice pricing that one dealer game me and markup is pretty good. Also there is a 2%-3% holdback that dealers get, so even if they have a $31,100 MSRP car that they paid invoice of less than $28,100, and they make $1,000 or so even selling at invoice.
Don't forget too that the dealer financed cars have 1%-3% built into those for the dealer too. If you are not getting 4.5%-5.5% financing (with good credit) then you are getting robbed! Most dealers will jack up the rate to over 6.5% and make 1% more on the loan. If you are adding things up, the dealer will make about 13% selling a car at MSRP. That is too much. I don't have to worry about the financing since I will pay cash, but most of you are taking the loan out for 48-60 months and that means LOTS of money for the dealer if you go that route. If you are going to get raped on the rate anyway and streatch it out for 5 years then at least try to negotiate for below MSRP.
