who engineered the sunglass holder?

What genuis had the idea to incorporate a sunglass holder into the '8, but make it so small in volume that only women's thin frame reading glasses could fit?
I recently acquired my first '8 and today I cleaned it up and went to put some of my stuff in it, and found that my (fairly thin/small) glasses wouldn't come close to fitting. Makes me wonder why they even bothered.
By the way, the difference between the rx7club and this forum is startling. General tech posts on the 7 club refer to "how to turbo my n/a rx7", "engine overheating", and "engine won't start". Items being bought and sold are engine internals, turbo kits, and standalone computers.
Here, the general tech posts are more along the lines of "rx8 makes a funny noise while driving" or "how fast does your '8 get to 140mph". The WTB/FS posts are about navigation add-ons, body kits and trim, wheels and catbacks. You guys do not know how easy you have it. lol.

Don't get me started on those stupid-*** sun visors though!

My eye doc says not to store glasses up there anyway. Says they get too hot.
I guess Honday / Acura changed their thinking because my Wife's RDX doesn't have one up on the roof.

Whether they fit or not, sunglasses are too easily knocked off the holder. They will then hit the shift **** or another hard object down there and get scratched. The sunglass holder should not be used.

My Oakley Juliets never fit...but I wouldn't put them there if they did. Don't want the lens scratching. I just use the pocket behind the passenger seat if I really shouldn't be wearing them.

Perforations = Less weight. It's not the first time Mazda has done crazy things to the RX series of cars to save weight anywhere they can. Once you start reading about all the things they did to the RX-7 to save weight, it's a very interesting read. They didn't get as extreme on the 8, but there are a few "silly" things like the sun visors.

Is there something you've read that comments about the perforation being weight saving?

Actually I think the perforated sun visors are one of the best least pushed features of the car. Simply genius! They block light in all but one very small position and in the small position allow you to see the street light across the road even when the visor is down.
