I used to believe that. I don't any more.

If Mazda could reasonably fix these things they would. I agree with you that with the RENESIS, they "want to make it as perfect as possible". Unfortunately I now believe the NA RENESIS didn't live up to their expectations.

I think the RX8 is in a no man's land or at least land never trekked that is between a conservative, stately 4-seat GT (like the BMW 3-series) and a more single-minded gearhead performance sports car (like the 350z, Evo, and STi). It could have been positive or negative but empirical evidence over the last 1.5 years indicates it didn't gain traction. The MS6 is in a similar situation ekeing out a unique territory next to the Evo and STi, and I think it has a good chance of succeeding. But with the MS6 focused more on the Evo and STi, I feel this gives Mazda a chance to position the RX8 more toward the BMW 3-series. This would be positive because instead of having to face the implacable pressure to increase HP to close to 300 HP because of the 350z, Evo, and STi, Mazda can focus on more modest gains closer to the 3.0 liter BMW 330's 255 HP. A 25 HP gain is realistic and doable. Also, I think it's time to put in a sturdier cat. Come on, how much more would that cost Mazda. Now is the time to just do it, Mazda.

Not exactly something that puts a smile on your passengers face. My idea of a great sounding engine is American V8's....then maybe Italian V12's.
As much as I luuuuv the sound of not just American V8's, but Ford V8's (yes they do sound different and I CAN identify them by sound alone)... and damn... Ferrari V8's sound HAWT! Hell... Alpha V6's sound Italian hot. The rotary... I've heard two that just made me want to go get an 8 right away... 1 had the AutoExe kit (and thus probably exhaust as well) and the driver was getting on it down a clear stretch of road. The other... a JDM MS8 I saw the other day pulling up to a light. Damn is sounded exotic.

So, sorry... I gotta go with Zoom44 on this one. Sounds good to me. Looks good to me too. All it needs is an s/c for 270-300whp and it's the perfect package.

Here's one... I've mentioned it before. Many of the major automakers are offering factory aftermarket parts. not just BS suspension upgrades, but engine performance parts. Ford does for the Mustang (and a few others) through Ford Racing. GM is with the Cobalt SS. Even Toyota is with TRD parts for the Tacoma X-Runner and Scion Tc. WTF is Mazda doing?! Since others are doing it, liability, reliability, whatever is just a cop out. Build it and they will come Mazda.

I'm happy with the changes for 2006

I just ordered my RX-8 last night, and I'm happy with the changes, mainly due to the fact that I need an automatic so that my wife can drive it on occasion, and most of the changes for the 2006 were to the automatic. What I don't like is that I have a June delivery date, and the 2007's are due out in the fall. I was told that they will be producing less 2006's this year, plus when you add in the fact that they haven't delivered an 06 yet, it makes me wonder if they are just going to keep the 2007's exactly the same and at some point this year just stop making 06's and start making 07's. That would catch them up to their usual time line of releasing model years of cars, and they wouldn't have to switch the factory back an forth between other lines as much this year. If that is true, then that could push any redesign back to 2008. Of course, that might just be my wishful thinking since I am just now buying...

I'm not saying that the renesis cannot sound good with a better exhaust system......but 'stock' it just sounds 'ok'.

What, generally good reliability, reasonable economy for a rotary and for the power output, >200bhp output no matter how you slice the 6 port, countless awards, and certainly the implication that these motors should be good for 200K and are fitted to bodies that should last that long too?

Mazda should be proud of the Renesis. It is a good engine. Really, if people want to whine that much about their cars, they should have bought something else.

Mazda can be as proud of the RENESIS as they want to be, however if people don't buy the car and if those that do are not satisfied, well .... unfortunately in business the customer is always right.

Yep... I have to admit it... I'm a Ford man. Even with older aftermarket exhausts with the highway drone issue on the 302... didn't bother me... just music to my ears.

There's nothing like going to the NHRA Drag Strip in Bradenton, Fl... especially for Fast Fords weekend and listening to those motors. Grrrr. Street drivable Fox-body Mustang with twin turbos doing the 1/4mi in under 10sec... I forget the trap speed, but it was up there.

Ah I see. yeah... the stock muffler sounds "O K". Needs a cat-back.

At least 200 K ? really ? no offence but who actually hit that mark yet ?

maybe another 2 years before someone even has a chance to get near that mark

Maybe me ... I have a feeling Im going to put another 20-30 K miles in 2006 to early 2007 .... when my loan is up I think I should have at least 150K on my 8 already.
