You're right Charlie, I don't know what I was thinking.

It's not shaved but rather flush. You push in. Also, that is not the RX-EVOLV, but rather the 2001 Detroit Auto Show RX-8 concept.
Little factoid: There were hundreds of RX-8 concept design sketches developed which included versions from all 3 Mazda design centers (Hiroshima, MNAO, and MRE).
This is the RX-EVOLV. Displayed at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show.

Better than an rx01 guess :D

Actually, I take back my statement about CSS, it's just 2 animated gifs:
Code:
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td background="https://www.rx8club.com/images/misc/logo2-bg.jpg" align="left"> <a href="index.php"> <img border="0" alt="RX8Club.com" src="/forum/images/rx8club-logo.gif" title="RX8Club.com"/> </a> </td> <td width="100%" height="76" background="/forum/images/rx8club-logo.gif"/> </tr> </tbody> </table>
Would be much cleaner to use a couple divs, a few lines of CSS, and a javascript rotating script and have the two images as separate jpgs as the gifs are only 1280 pixels wide, and there's two of them (the IMG tag and the TD). Looks rather odd, specially for anyone sporting a resolution wider than 1280 pixels.

From a designer and developer perspective I like the idea but the execution is off a bit to me. Instead of an animated GIF, which can become distracting to the user, I'd suggest using the random rotating banner code. This will present a different banner each time the page is refreshed.
The problem with creating GIF images is that it's limited to a max 256 color range, thus photos with many colors become pixelated as above.

I have to keep the banner hidden via scrolling down now, since it attracts attention at work
Just have it change every time a page opens, or randomly selected, or a banner matching the year and color of the 8 of the person logged in would be awesome, though we would need to set up a dedicated few fields in the profiles to capture that data cleanly of course.

image size of 1280px × 100px = fail
why is the banner as wide as my screen? the only time that the page displays correctly (without showing a stupid horizontal scroll bar) is when there is no vertical scroll bar. the banner really needs be resized horizontally.
