Whos shows their RX8
Im just curious as to how many people take their 8s to car shows.
I plan on eventually showing mine and wanted to know what kind of competition i had out there.....j/k. For work i go to shows all over the place and was hoping to run into a few of you fellows out and about.

Myself and boringkajj both show in our area. Mine's stockers except for the tinting. He's got lots of shiney extra bits on his (brake fluid, oil, and other caps). We have pics from a few more shows, but I'm lazy and haven't updated my pics page in a while. We've each come away with best in class a few times, as well as top 50's for the open shows. We''ve only been to local shows, not the major ones. If you intend to do the big events, do some local ones first to give you an idea of the work involved.

**edit the first car show pics are from a model shoot for a local magazine that was starting up. the magazine never went to print unfortunatly. but I got some great pics out of it! :D
and yes, that putz in the group shot is leaning against my baby. I just about flipped... but was distracted by the hottness of two of the chicks...

I've had mine in a few local car shows where I've won 1st Place Import Tuner. None of the shows were anything major. It's kinda fun to "win" a show just by purchasing a car. :p I will eventually show mine when I get the cash to add goodies. :D

yea, I'm probably not going to show anymore, my paint is to messed up from the squirrels, dealership, and major storms we've had go through. I did manage to get it into a garage for Hurricane Dennis tho. Didn't really need it, it hit east of here, so no damage.

I've had mine at a couple of local "cruise nights" (Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights IL) and at a NW Import Car Club "Show & Shine" event recently. Honestly, I'm sort of done with this scene - what I have "mad skilz" at is detailing the car - it looks fantastic shined up (it's Lightning Yellow), but it's also box-stock other than the tires, so at a show full of other rice rockets and tuner cars, it's sort of plain.
Where it has been popular is the cruise nights - those tend to bring out a lot of vintage detroit iron, rather than the import tuner crowd, and at that shows, it's a conversation piece.
I have yet to win anything though - I think if they had a "best daily driver" competition, I'd win hands down - but the vast majority of the rides at those shows are trailer queens and "sunshine" rides. Never see a drop of rain or a flake of snow.
My car, on the other hand, spends half of it's life parked in valet parking at O'Hare Airport!

My car is stock. A car doesn't have to be modded to be a show car. If it's stock, you're usually showing coniditon of the car and car cleanlieness (meaning how **** you were in detailing it).
If you have tons of mods, you can compete in the the modified categories. Usually shows have multiple classes and sub categories. This one show I was at took it to the extreme. They had a class for each make, with three sub-categories: stock, conservitive, extreme. The last two were how many mods you have done. There were four el caminos that showed and only two were in the same category.
Most "open car shows" allow anybody in. There will usually be an open class, sometimes broken down by year. If you have any engine/transmission mods of over three minor mods (such as stereo, body kit and aftermarket rims) you would be considered modified.
I like going to open car shows more than the import only ones for a couple of reasons. The first, there's less of the drama associated with egotistical import tuners. The second, and primary rerason I like going, is the mix of cars at an open show. Imports, muscle cars, specials, customs and everything else.

time to buy a turbo kit chrome up all the piping take it back, pop open the hood and when people come bitching at you direct them to your engine bay.
