Why is it that cops always sit out on nice sunny days?

ok how about I don't hate cops, but i hate the speed laws they have in our country, I have a car that can do 130, and 90 feels managable in GOOD weather, but unless I'm on a track I'm "stuck" going 75 ........... Now I know not everyone should be able to go fast, but maybe make like a class you can take, or if you dont get a ticket for x amount of years your allowed to go faster.
#27
I guess. I never took any classes or went to court when I lived in NJ. Insurance didn't change.
Here in FL I took a few video tape courses to stop the points, but I am only allowed one per year, so one year I got two tickets. I got 2-3 points on the ticket. Insurance rates still the same.

I like to look up info such as how many times they've been warned, etc. I'm about 60/40 on warnings to citations generally. I'd like to think I'm pretty fair about it...and I do like to talk to people about their cars! (But not if I'm writing a ticket.)

First off, if you are going to speed than have a good radar detector.
This is a good start- http://www.radarbusters.com/radar-de...ardetector.cfm
( Escort Passport 9500i )
They also have laser deflecting license plate covers and combo photo/laser license plate covers.
If you are going to speed, at least give yourself a chance.
2nd, you have lots of lazy policing in the U.S. were the cops look for easy targets.
Chasing murders, drug dealers, rapists, robbers, etc... is very difficult. Actively patrolling crime afflicted areas is dangerous and actually becoming a member of the communities afflicted by crime is either beneath some very bias cops or boring. Besides with no true solutions for poverty, joblessness, job discrimination, etc... why even try?
However, chasing speeding cars is a great game of tags in which they can make lots of money. Nevermind, pushing for legislation like speed limiters if it was really a problem. Much better to have escalating technology races between radar gun and radar detector companies, powerful upgraded engines, intimidate drivers, and lazily wait by the side of the road for the next "speeder" to harass. Easy job and great fun at somebody else's expense.

I hear ya. I generally am very fair (I would like to think). From out of town? New to the area? Brake light out? I'm all about warnings...

That is true, but I just hate it that cops always pick on nice looking cars when most of the time its fuxking Civics that goes 100 mph all the time.

I will say by "harassing" speeders and doing other general traffic enforcement is one of the main avenues to catching people doing anything at all. Stopped one the other day for a license plate light violation...had meth, fake money, and a gun. Another stop led to my discovery of lots of unopened mail in the back seat...from 30 different people. Turns out she was an ID thief scouring people's mailboxes.
As for speeding, hey, we all do it. But, sometimes you gotta pay to play, ya know?
Soap, I'da given ya a warning in your 8 if it'd been me.

btw yeah now I have a Valentine One in my car but even that is a risk because Radar detectors are "illegal" in my state, so I have to try and hide it if there is a cop around ........ The worst part is, aren't the cops supposed to be you know ... FOR the people Not against them?
#35
speed smart, and use ur valentine as a guide.. i've yet to got a ticket when i am fully awake and aware, 2 (1 warning, 1 citation) last year was caused i was... falling asleep at the wheel (damn austin to dallas trip after exam)
oh and http://forums.officer.com/forums/index.php

In FL we have 2 different records, your MVR with will show your points if you have any and then there is the CLUE report where it will show all your records whether you have points or not, it will show any accidents whether it was your fault or not, and so on. The CLUE report is the one I am refferring to, so if you went to the school and your MVR doesnt show the record anymore, the CLUE report will.

You sure they didn't write it for "Violation of a traffic control device: speed sign, XXmph in a YYmph zone"? That's worth fewer points and it's a cheaper fine. Both of my tickets have had that designation and both officers pointed out that it's basically a speeding ticket with a much smaller punishment.

I have another driver, and another car. Combined I pay just under $250 a month. I was thinking about switching companies because I think I can do better. Currently using GEICO.
#41
Why dont I give you a quote, we have alot of companies here in my office. Let me know.
Also you must have good credit and be over 25 cause different companies also have different brackets they put you in and if you have good credit the rate will still be lower.

I still speed because I havent learned my lesson.... Im not a bad driver because I drive fast and as long as I have the money to pay the tickets then it shouldnt be a problem. I even have a rotary tattoo now with hash marks in the center for all the tickets Ive recieved. Im not hurting anyone, Im actually helping by paying court costs to the countys. If I where back in Germany noone would think twice of the speeds I drive...
I Agree OS, I know I can handle higher speeds than the average person so it would be nice if it where based on your ability and the amount of traffic around you...

Dump GEICO!!!!! I did, and I saved about 200+ per month. Believe it or not I was paying more than you. Similar situation (2 cars, 2 drivers).

My insurance was supposed to be $200/mo until I turned 21 (1 car/1 driver) and it has been up until February and it went to $150 and my March bill just came and its $100... All it says is "adjustments have been made to your policy"...

Don't feel bad....At least the cop was cool. He probably knows what the 8 is capable of through the twisties, and was just reminding you of what speed can do....
In answer to your question....."because they can"...........
Sunday 10 am in the country....NO traffic....gorgeous morning, and I'm coming down a 4 lane highway off of a mountain. 70 in a 55, and the cop gets out of his car, hand on his gun because I tossed a half way smoked cigarette out the window to be polite. Then tells me after getting my license and registration that if I want to get out and pick it up, he won't fine me 500.00 for littering.......All he saw was a shiny red sports car, and hit the blues. He was coming from the other direction and had hit the grass median to come after me before I ever saw him.

Im 22 years old and the insurance companies I work with wanna charge me around 2800 for 6 months for the two cars and 2 drivers, progressive wants to charge me 4k for 6 months (they can kiss my ***, though i sell the company to other people no problem.) Geico is currently charging me 1300 for 6 months and they have my business for my renewal coming up with them in 2 months because they are saving me 60-70% on my 2 cars and 2 drivers. So with geico my insurance became a bill that I don't have to worry about too much.
Oh and I got a ticket for passing a cop because i needed to make a left turn and I was in the right lane. I sped up to 55 in a 40 because in order to pass someone safely you need to speed up. There was no one in front of her and it was 2AM, I didnt notice it was a cop until I passed and she put on her lights. I think she was pmsing that day because she wrote me up for doing a 60 in a 40 even though I told her my digital spedo said 55. Either way it didnt hold up in court and I won the case.

Don't waste your money on a lawyer. Most are douchebags anyway and the judges dislike certain ones. Go to court plead No Contest and be done with it. No points and possibly a reduced fine. Spending money on a minor ticket is waisting more money then speeding.
#49
Either way you still have to pay a court fee of over 100, plus my lawyer doesnt charge me too much.
