Why do people not care

Why do people not care
I just walked out to my 8 that Ive had for a little over a month now and what do I find? Someone has not put a door ding or backed into it, but someone has shot an arrow into my car. I know this sounds like I'm making it up and I only wish I was. I had been out all night with my car siting in my apartment complex and I come back and that is what I found. I was walking towards my car and it looked as if a stick was hanging on it, but as I got closer I realized it was a arrow. It was about a 2ft. long arrow that you would shoot with a hunting bow. The arrow had went through the black plastic under the right rear fender. I guess they were trying to shoot out my tire. I called my father and told him about it, then he suggested that I call the police. So I called the police and they came and looked at the damage, they told me they probably wouldnt be able to do much especially since the arrow was wood. They said they wouldnt be able to get any prints off the wooden arrow. I guess the only good that came out of the incident is that it went through the plastic instead of the fender. As soon as I can get a digital camera I'll post pics of the damage and of my car that I havent had a chance to post yet. I have had no problems or disagreements with anyone that lives in my apartment complex, so that leaves me to wonder why? I just really needed to vent to everyone, thanks.

Woah.. Wierd object to see sticking out your car when you return, but that really sucks man. I am an archer and I know how powerful some bows can be, once I watched some little idiot shoot through steel cladding of a building from 25 meters with a training bow!
Hope you can get it repaired easily.

Sorry to hear that, and I thought I was doing bad when I found my car was hit on the parking lot at work. Your arrow is certainly worse.
And a nice choice for the topic ("..not care"..) - I'd think it was intentional. Unless the person was a real bad shot.
My broken bumper guard was only $31 from Rosenthal Mazda and I put it on myself. Let us know how expensive your repair is. Certainly a case for your insurance.

That sucks and I am glad that the fix was inexpensive. I am watching Pulp Fiction and it reminds of the Vincent Vega lines, "It would almost be worth him doing it (keying his car) to catch him doing it" and of course "you don't **** with a man's car". Although I am not sure what I would try to do to someone who had a bow and arrows.

Damn! That's a new one on me.
Where I live we have had in the past kids go on shooting sprees with B-B guns on car windows but never a bow. In fact, this is the first time that I have heard of a bow actually being used in a crime.
Damn the luck.
I would love to see pictures of the damage and the arrow if you still have it.

Shot your car with an arrow, that is odd! Why with all the other ways, many much more covert, would someone take aim with a bow and arrow? You said it was in an apartment complex, maybe check around with local kids. If the shooter lives around there, and shoots outdoors, others may know who did it. Its also possible it was target practice gone awry, but shooting arrows in the direction of an apartment is a dangerous.
I had kids steal a small motorcycle from an apartment complex. It was chained to a bike rack, they cut the crossbar on the handlebars. The police took a report but did little else. I looked more closely and found evidence and eventually caught the kids. Was it a target or hunting arrow? Maybe also look in the direction the arrow may have been shot from.
Someone dinged my car when it was a few weeks old, looks like bumper impact on the edge of the front tire fender. I couldn't see it until someone else pointed it out to me. Its clearly dented, I haven't done anything about it yet.

Good thing you weren't in or around your 8 at that time. That may of been worse.
Kids or no kids, I'm not too surprised how our society is turning out. I feel it's only going to get worse.
For your own safety, maybe you should stay away from that area?
Take it easy.

The police took the arrow when they came and took the report. I don't have a digital camera to take pics and post them. I will try to get one and post the pics. I'm going to call my insurance company tomorrow, so I can get it fixed as soon as possible

Well, since this is an apartment complex, I would urge you to take action and fight back in a civilized way. First try to take a picture or something and Post several "Info Wanted" notices in the main lobby stating that you AND the Police are looking any information on the incident and any one in the apartment who might own or have a bow and an arrow. Make sure you put any information given to you will be kept totally confidential.
This way, at least you can strike fears to whoever did it and if it turns out to be a kid, their parents for sure would know whether they have a bow in the house. Even if the parents kept quiet, pretty sure the kid will get what he deserves. Who knows, if you are lucky you might actually get some good info and be able to nail this bastard.
The point is, you have to make it sounds like you are out looking for him, otherwise, next time they will key it or crack your windshields with a BB gun or something.
Good Luck.

unfortunately, i doubt the kid will 'get what he deserves' even if the parents did find out...they're products of the same society, and allow their kid to go wandering around with a high powered weapon???

car vandals/theives are the worst scum on the planet. i propose a law wherein aprehended perpatrators are drug naked over 4 lanes of broken glass on a salted highway then bathed in lemon juice. then kicked down a flight of stairs for good measure.

Sorry to hear that, man. That's a prime example of why I finally bit the bullet and bought a house last year.
Over a ten-year period of apartment living, I was constantly in fear for my vehicle's safety. In reverse chronological order:
I had my neighbor across the drive tell me that he saw some kids throw firecrackers onto the hood of my '98 Trans Am (which I kept meticulously waxed, as with all my vehicles).
Someone tried to steal the wheels off the Trans Am, but set off the alarm in the process, thereby activating the defense mechanism: a 35-year old, pissed off former Marine infantry sergeant with a sawed-off shotgun.
Someone tried to steal my VTX1300, (which I had firmly chained to the ground with a hellacious NATO armory chain and lock, tied down to a 14" riser clamp I had imbedded in the concrete with 3/4" anchor bolts). Since they couldn't get the bike, they settled for vandalizing it instead. Paint and body damage.
Someone succeeded in stealing my CBR600F4i, which had no less than FOUR locks on it, all of which they busted off with freon, (a trick I previously wasn't aware of, but bought a lock and chain to compensate for when I got my next bike; see above).
Some idiot tore the entire rear bumper off my '86 Fiero GT and just left it lying in the parking lot. Insurance fixed it, but it cost me the deductible.
Someone stole the SPOILER off of my Supra. Yes, just the spoiler. /boggle
Well, enough was enough. I now have a garage in which to keep my 8 and my bike, and they both stay in there when I'm not either driving or washing them. I'll never live in an apartment complex again-- especially since the ones with the attached garages are even more expensive than just buying a house. And you don't get any equity out of an apartment.
So, my advice: as soon as you can possibly afford it, scram from apartments. Even a house in a mediocre neighborhood is better than the best apartment complex. If buying a house is not an option, (and I realize that it's not for many people who live/work inner city), then might I suggest you only buy cars you don't care about being vandalized or stolen until it becomes practical to move elsewhere. You may not be able to buy the go-toys you want, but it will save you a lot of grief and heartache, and you can save a lot of money on car payments in the meantime.

Say NO to Apt living
Apathy Curve is right. Once you get a house, you will never again want to live in an apartment.
Also, I pissed away over $11 grand in rent before I bought my house. My mortgage costs me only $30 more a month.
