I accidently cut off a Porsche Cayenne Turbo at a stop light tonight because I had to make a right turn at the next intersection (I didn't know it was a Cayenne until I was stopped). The Porsche changed into the left lane and came along side me like he wanted to race or he was pissed because I sort of cut him off. I wasn't about to race him because it was raining and it was dark and just not safe by any means. I wouldn't have raced him anyway if conditions were differenct, but my god when that light turned green he took off like a bat outta hell. I'm glad I didn't try anything because I'm pretty sure he would have smoke me......but I guess he'll never know that

I dont know why people want to race every rare car they see like the Rx-8's and the s2000 even the rx-7's and supra's, is it that temping? jeez come on nows I know my 8 is fast enough but is it really worth wasting your time and gas. Rx-8 a sports car like no other *ZOOM-ZOOM* lolz

Blah, on the way home from the LA auto show some mini-van, yes a mini va was egging me on. Tailgat, tailgate, tailgat, drive next to, cut in front, drive slower. Maybe they were just jealous. Needless to say they finally gave up and took off. 10 min later I pass them without realizing it. Mini van changes lanes and I loose them in the turns.
I could have just been delusional though, might have been a coincidence...

It's like John Travolta said, "when you're important, people will wait." Take your time and enjoy the car. I know it's fun to drive fast and everyone's got a different idea about what's too fast. But if your idea of fun involves showing off your performance to others you got some deeper issues than whether you blew the doors off that WRX last night. I know there's some people who are just messing around and want to play with their new toy. There are safer ways to do it and some people only learn that lesson after they get burned. I guess when I see someone who wants to race despite my clear disinterest I just think, who are you trying to impress -- me or you? Just my two cents.

Man the most annoyyin thing is when they pulled up next to you and give you this dead look. Next thing you know it there honking 3 times in the freeway and left while I just still behind confuse thinkin those kids must be real idiots. I was like urghhhh....whut?!??! Jeezes I cruise in 6th all the time

Ah yes, I get challenged often enough. I had a good one tonight. I pulled up to a stop sign and a motorcycle pulled up going the other way. He rev'd up the engine, held down the front break and smoked his rear tire for about 15 seconds. I think he expected me to do the same. Little did he know I couldn't even if I wanted to. Damn TCS.

I rev my engine in return, look at them, and when the light turns I either don't move or I turn off the street...well thats what I did in my Miata...I even had pickup trucks try to race me...it got old but I learned how to have fun with it.

i was takin the back roads to atlantic city one weekend(one lane in each direction) and passing on the on comin traffic lane was perfectly legal. well half way there i had a ricer accord doing 5 under the speed limit, so i attempted a normal, civil pass (had my girl in the car so i didn't want to act like a show-off.) well he kept speeding up trying to keep me in the on coming traffic lane. I back off behind him again and told my girl to wrap that little handle above her seat (known to my friends as the 'oh sh*t' handle.) Then the magic of 3rd gear awwed him.

Don't laugh.....a Bettle Turbo S will pull on our 8s.

Going 90mph on a local freeway and pass up a Beetle Turbo S.
Beetle downshifts and passes me, I'm still cruising in 6th gear.
Now we're going up hill.
I floor it (in 6th) and by 105 I pass him and all I hear is his turbo hissing and spooling as much as it can.
A Beetle Turbo S is still a Beetle. No respect for those cars. Just like SRT-4s
And to add onto the topic, I personally don't get any off-the-light races at all.
I think not looking over at whoever pulls next to me is part of it.

depending on where boost comes on, it might take an ever so slight advantage right off the line, since it has a bit more torque, but its only rated at 7.5s 0-60. it'd be a match up for the AT 8, but wouldn't even be close against an MT 8.
now, if the beetle were and rsi, then that would be a driver's race, but since there were so few of those built, chances of seeing one wanting to street race on a public road are slim to none.

I owned a Porsche 928 for like 13 yrs. It's evy race em if you want but , I'll let the driving and car speak for them selves at the track.
I now have a Porsche 914 that looks fast but is no street drag racer. Get it on the Autocross track and look out buddy that car is FAST.
If I try to drive at 10 / 10ths of the 914's limit on the street somebody will kill themselves trying to keep up. I imagine the RX-8 will be the same story.
magnet of the backof the car says " SCCA race me at the track not on the street"

I've actually learned not to underestimate the sporty coupes out there, in the hands of a good driver they can most definitely keep up or even beat an RX-8 in twisties or anywhere else for that matter. Case in point...I have a friend that used to own a MT Celica 2000 GTS w/ Ingen intake and TRD exhaust, stock suspension. I was there with him when his car was new, and when he added each of the mods...he most definitely gained power with those upgrades. My RX-8 is an AT with no mods, so overall I thought his car after the mods made an excellent car to try myself against, as we were pretty even HP wise.
What I completely did not expect was how much better his car actually gripped in some of tight curves in the twisties. He was actually able to take those curves at higher speeds than I could without any hint of tire slip. If I had attempted the same speeds, I most definitely would be slipping my tires. I observed this both riding in his car, and trying to follow him in the RX-8 through the curve. I didn't know what to make of that in the end. I think I would attribute it to his tires being possibly superior (Bridgestone S-03 Poles), and my stock Dunlops did noticeably take a huge nosedive in grip after 5000 miles (I'm at 9000 miles now). He still thinks my car handles better but I dunno about that anymore. Maybe it *feels* better but all I know is I couldn't even get close to him through those curves. And when attempting to follow him in a straight line with both of us going WOT from a standstill, he maintained 2 car lengths at all times. I don't mess with Celicas anymore after that little experience.
