Why is the horn so loud?

Why is the horn so loud on the rx8 when we lock it via the remote key.

Each time I park my car somewhere and walk away and lock the car with my remote everyone turns around and looks and me and they think I'm honking at them.

Anyone else have the same issue?

I like the loud horn personally. It is the loudest I have heard.
I have a 2005.. not sure if it is different..
but 1 press locks and flashes the lights.. no beep.
I have to press a 2nd time for the horn to beep.
At night, I am careful not to press 2 times... or I will wake the dead.. haha

Press the fob once, the doors are locked with NO horn. Press it a second time and you get the honk. Just don't hit it twice!

the horn sounds when you hit the lock button and its to tell you that it's already locked. you only need to push the lock button once. for a real aural treat if you havent done it before, push the panic button i use the second push honk when i see people checking out the car to keep them far enough away so their drool doesnt land on th epaint

Hey at least it's a FORD horn... better than the standard meek tone of most Japanese vehicles.

meep meep (move outta the way or I'll throw sushi at you!)

BMW Keyless Lock

I saw a guy locking a BMW the other day. And the locking sound was sweet. It sounded like something on the enterprise. Like Captain Picard was pressing a button on his console. It was an older BMW though.

I was very happy it was more authoritative than my Miata's roadrunner horn. I had to replace that with some FIAMM blasters to get anybody to hear me.

Funny thing happened at work Monday- a '03 or '04 Jag and I parked next to each other - as we both walked away we double-clicked our remotes and laughed when the exact same horn sounded... thanks Ford

I thought 1 press on the lock button locks the doors with no car alarm, 2 presses arms the alarm?

Nope, first press arms the car too. Leave the window down and press the lock button once. Then reach in the car and open it to hear the alarm. Keep your finger on the unlock button to turn it off quickly... :p

Yep- even the added shock sensor is armed with the first 'silent' click.

Oh man. Is it really a Ford horn? Yeah I know Ford owns Mazda. bummer. I like the loud sound too. Makes it sound like a big Caddy but not a Ford. My father-in-law had a Lincoln and the horns sounded really bad so I looked in the fender well under the hood and one horn was pointed towards the driver. LOL Fixed that but it still sounded clunky and not loud like the RX does. A Ford horn. Oh my I will not tell anyone about that.

I like it loud. I don't like the anemic honda horns.. If it's too loud for you.. you can walk AWAY from the car before you arm it.

Oh no, a Ford horn? That'll probably be the first thing to break. My salesman works for a dealer that sells Ford, Nissan, and Mazda, and he said he likes the 3 and the RX-8 because Ford has nothing to do with them!

Please, oh please tell me there's not actually a Ford horn in my RX-8...

I was under the impression that Ford wasn't involved in the design of the RX-8 at all and assumed this meant there was no crappy Ford parts...?

That's what I thought too. Found on the road dead. Flip over and read directions. I guess its a way for Ford to get rid of excess horns then?

Oh there may be other Ford designs that went into the RX. Oh I hope not too much. I guess when you are the big guy that owns the company somewhere you will want your influence. Bummer. Funny I don't remember a Ford sounding this good. Course I don't go around listening to Fords. Anyone own a new Ford and their horns sound as loud as the RX? So what if one breaks,do we go to a Ford dealer to get a replacment?

Yep!!!!!! the Mazda 6 has a Ford V6 in it. That would keep me from considering buying one.

It just so happens I was looking at the window sticker that came with the car last night. The car is built in Hiroshima with 97% or 98% Japanese parts. The remainder are American parts. Probably the horn and the defrost button. Hee hee, just kidding. I don't want to sound un-American, but man, everything Ford touches seems to turn to crap.
