Why I bought my 8 (to all the haters)
I always have guys at work and people that know me when I had my 2003 Cobra come up to me asking why I bought this little car. They tell me they can blow my doors off in there Vettes, etc.
I don't have to explain to them but I usually end up having to. I didn't buy this car to street race, I didn't buy this car to be the fastest car in the bay area, I didn't buy the car to save on gas.
I purely bought the car because its a fun car. I can give a rats *** when a teenager punk with his pants hanging off his *** pulls up beside me and revs his fart can exaust on his 1992 honda civic and wants to race me and threaten all these innocent peoples lives on the streets. or the 55 year old man in the middle of his midlife crisis reving on me in his Z06. Can we not buy a car and have fun with it with out these insecure ****** breathing down our throats mouthing off all the cars that can smoke me? LOL Somone today said why did you buy that car, a Neon can smoke you. I just smiled and said "yeah man"
Our little RX8 group that meets on Fridays in Union city is a tight nit little group and they will tell you we show up to have a good time and eat dinner together and it never fails some ***** always rolles by and revs and spins there tires. Making it difficult for us true car enthusiasts to just have a good time. I don't want a license to kill like 007 but it would be nice to be able to just slap some of these usless ****** breathing our air and take up useless space.
This is just a post to vent so please take it with a grain of salt and don't flame me to badly
I feel much better now.
Does this happen to any of you? do you guys have to explain to others why we didn't pick a different car? I think people don't truely know how fun a rotary is untill they actually drive one. I know after driving it I changed my mind about this jewel.

LOL
At the end of my first RX8 club meeting a couple of civic drivers saw the '8s parked together and couldn't resist putting on a show of stupidity.
I agree with what you said in your post, the RX8 is a sports car, not a racer. Enjoy the car and the brotherhood of the rotary!

Welcome to the club. You will get idiots talking $hit to you about it, and you will have people admire it. The car is not for everyone and it is an addiction. Tell all the haters to just follow you through a tight set of twisties.

I so agree!!! It is a different breed that drives the 8. I have been to a ton of car meets. Seems the RX crowd are way more enthusiastic about their cars than any other. Almost all my driving buddies have a faster car than me, but for some reason they still fade in my rear view once we hit the curves. ( trying to avoid the word 'twisties') I bought my car because I wanted it for what it is, not what people thought it was. And as for the reving ricer guys . . just point and laugh. It kills them to be laughed at.

ppl ask me about 0-60s and crap like that and i just say i dont care. the way this thing drives is unlike anything on the road and i dont want to blend in like the rest of the 350z owners.
i just hate pistons so much, the tapping of the valvetrain, the roughness of its idle, the harsh sounds they make at high rpm...ever drive a vtec honda over 8k or so, sounds like the poor bastard is gonna blow the hellup! i love rotaries how they can run so smooth and u can beat the **** outta them and all ur doing is cleaning the carbon of the plugs....what other car in the world REQUIRES abuse to stay running properly? ill tell u this, if i drove an s2000 the way ive been driving my rotary, that valvetrain would be in pieces by now.....
10,500 rpm and still humming along!
i dont think ill ever own a piston engine again.

i'm probably in the minority here because i've never encountered anyone who had anything negative to say about the 8. Most of the stuff i hear are compliments or maybe i have selective hearing. Even if i heard them, last thing i want is to argue with someone who has no idea what their talking about, besides its not their car, its mine so i'd probably just tell them to shut their trap.

I have people sayin to me your car is slow or weak, or how fast is it and i'm like its not fast at all (cause it really isn't compared to other cars). Or worse yet i have stupid people revving on me, in Jettas, GTIs and i'm tempted to be like agh you dumb peeps. i'm a VW enthuisast too, it just so happens i'm on the other side of the pond now with Mazda. it gets quite annoying when there 3 stop lights and you're stopped at all 3 lights. and the guy next to you keeps revving and you're looking ahead and not making eye contact yet they are like tryin to egg you to race, meanwhile i'm thinking. uhh my car wasn't meant for striaght line speed, ur wasting your time. I feel like the RX-8 seems to intimate other guys for whatever reason and to me its funny because the majority of these cars will beat the 8 in a straightline. so to me its a compliment, like you have something to prove in your XYZ car by peeling out and revving on me haha. its pretty cool when you see them peel out and revv and then they wait for you to see if you will run with them and when you're just crusiing along normally, they get all pissed off like you ruined their night because you didnt challenge them. SO its like a hate and love thing with the 8 here.
But anywways here are the reasons i tell people why i bought the RX-8
1) Because its rarer, there not many advertisements out for it
2) Its affordable both list price and insurance wise, because it has the extra 2 doors in the back, its consider a 4 door even though it looks like a 2 door
3) it is powered by a rotary engine which means it doesn’t run on cylinders, its different
4) Its unique in design, it still looks modern to this day despite its introduction in spring 2003 as a 2004 model, in fact many modern day car designs are taking cues off the RX-8
5) I like the way it drives even though it may not be the most powerful car in a drag race, it will carve corners and take and hold speeds higher than the after mentioned vehicles.
6) I don’t see another one every corner I turn, which makes me feel like I’m driving something special.
7) It seats 4 in a pinch. It’s practical should a kid ever come in the near future in my life.

I have not been able on any single day to park anywhere in this area and not get a compliment - Sometimes it is just some one standing and staring at it as if memorizing it. Some times, some one, often a woman, will touch the fender very softly. Some times people just come up and want to talk about - or talk about their car - or just talk. The car Rally people, with the classics, and the hot rods, love it. I have come to consider the punk's challange a compliment - he sees it and he wants to play!
The nearest car I ever had to this was a 1937 Fraiser-Nash kit with a VW engine. But, I also felt a little ashamed, because it was not 'real' it was just pretty plastic - this car is real down to its jet engine red line - it is art - it is 'the' car of our time. Don't panic when used ones drop in price - grab and collect them...don't let your own go cheap - those who traded them in, so often wish they still owned them - now what other car does that to it's driver!
This car was built so you could savor the freedom of the road and the control of fire and metal, not as a noisy rattling explosion, but as a seamless force of nature -
It is an 8 thing, only an 8 owner would understand!

For a day's worth of driving, I encounter 1, or sometimes 2 cars that are as fast as the RX8. This is out of thousands of vehicles that share the roads with me on the 12 mile commute.
It is rare, perhaps once a week or every two weeks, that I see a vehicle significantly faster sharing the road. Significantly faster being between 1 and 2 seconds faster in the 0-60.
I once saw a Lamborghini sharing the road, and once a Ferrari, in my entire life.
Don't matter who you are, I don't come from a sports car background and I feel very thankful to drive such a fast car. This is the "practical" sports car, so realize that some people are coming from sedan backgrounds like me.
From my perspective, it's so silly to drive around thinking to yourself "My car wasn't meant to go fast in a straight line". You may not agree with me, but please reconsider such an unhealthy and pointless thought pattern. What is it doing for you anyway? Why not drop it?
I drive every day to work, and I'm usually the fastest car out there, in a straight line, or through a curve, or even over a speed bump. It's common for me to go the whole way, without seeing another car remotely close in speed.
I'm sorry to hear that for some RX8 owners, there is a "group of people" out there with Evo and Z06 always taking jabs at them, making life difficult and trying to wear down the individual. Everyone I know though, all have truck, or suv, or sedan, or jeep.
To have someone come up to me and tell me to my face that an "Evo will own me" is just plain ludicrous. I'd sooner get hit by lightning!

Aman to that. Makes me proud to be an old fart.

No Mustangs where you live User24? My area is littered with them, and like was mentioned before, they all seem to have a desire to see if they can beat me. I learned once or twice that they will, so mostly I just play cat and mouse with them.
But when all the city driving is over and I get to make a trip to the Dragon or the Blue Ridge Parkway, nothing compares!

Not every Mustang is faster. Most that I see are not the higher horsepower versions. These drivers seem to just want a Mustang, and stick with the V6 and automatic and older versions at that. It has been a long time since I have even seen a GT.
I've never had a Mustang try to race me. They tend to be very conservative drivers and I think they appreciate their car in a wholly different way than the ricer types.
