Why I Purchased My 2nd RX8
This is my second 8 because:
1. It is still way too cool looking.
2. 4 Seats
3. Quiet- love the hummmmmmmm
4. Handles nice
5. Comfortable and nice/simple interior
6. One of my best cars of all times (Had 2 RX7s and 2 Rx8s)
7. Dependable (Never had a flood issue)
Why I didnt buy them"
1. Speed
2. Gas mileage (I am getting 21 MPG average)
Gotta love the 8!!!!!!!!

8. Early model "teething problems" fixed. Five years of tiny changes, revisions and refinement—all in one new 8.

Someone somewhere posted this, and i think its almost 100% true. The car just looks like its a $50,000 + car that can be had for under 20k.
Other reasons I love the car
Truly a 1 of a kind engine in the car
best looks you can think of
fun to drive
If i had to sum up the car in one word it would be UNIQUE
From looks, to engine, to even color (I have the lightning yellow), I see 100's of G35's, 350z and thousands of civics, mustangs and WRX's, When you see another 8 on the road, its normally one or 2 a week.

Congratulations on number 2.
I also have had 2 RX-8's. Dealer wrecked the first one. Was a sad site.
I can see a thrid one in my future some day. Or whatever Mazda has that has a rotary in it.

I also have had 2 RX-8's.
When the program came out for early cars becuase of the horsepower discrepancy, I had the option of the $500 or trading the car back in for full refund, including sales tax.
I was getting about 14 miles per gallon on the city - sometimes 13 and I thought based on what other people were getting tht I had a lemon engine. The dealer told me they couldn't even determine if this was a problem or not.
So I gave back my very early '04 titanium 6 speed with chapparel interior, and ordered, guess what? THE EXACT SAME CAR. Every option the same. This was in Feb. '04. I negotiated a fantastic deal with another dealer - $200 over invoice, which was over $1000 less than the first one (which I also got a pretty good deal on at the time since most dealers were charging sticker or close since the car had just come out) I still hadn't sold my Probe GT so I used it for about 2 months of bad winter, and took deliver of my second 8 in march '04.
When I knew I was giving back the old one, a really took the car to it's limits - jackrabit starts, the whole works. Especially since I knew I'd have to totally baby the new one during the break in.
Unfortunately the new one got the exact same milage as the first one. I suspect it's a combinaiton of my driving style, and stop and start traffic here in Manhattan, combines with short trips and lot's of ideling.
Luckily I don't use the car for commuting (I work from home alot or take cabs/public trans in the daytime)- it's strickly for going out at night and on weekends, so I don't do much milage and gas consumption.
The only issue with giving the first 8 back was that I had the bumpers covered in 3M Rockguard - so that was over an $800 expense I had to redo on the new car. (but someone in my garage damages the bumper of the first 8 so that paid for the repairs and 3M application so it was a wash) The 3M material has keept the bumpers in perfect shape over the 4 years - and my bumper gets hit when I parks in the street. The 3M has yellowed though- so my installer is trying to get 3M to replace it.
If I were shopping for a car today - I'd buy the exact same one all over again. Sure I'd like a bit more horsepower, but the car is perfect for my needs - small, sporty, great handling, the abilty to take 3 passengers or lots of groceries, some boxes, etc.
I actually sat in back for the first time this week in a very long time looking for a squeak in the rear windshield while my girlfriend drove.
The rear lumbar was a bit too hard, but other than that It was very comfortable and spacious with the front seat up.
I've been in a supercharged and turbo'd 8's. If I can eventually get a SC in my car, I will be keping it very long time.
