Why I REGRET buying my RX-8

My brakes started squeeking at 10K miles. My dealership said it was a Mazda poor break item. At 30K miles, everytime I break it sounds like fingernails down a chalk board. I have been to my dealship two times now and I have just talked to a Mazda customer service rep. The customer service rep told me mazda would not reimburse me if I took my car to an independanct shop and that I would have to have the replacement brake put on. Even the customer service rep said the "new" brake pad is only a little better.

At this point I am committed to posting this message on every RX-8 chat forum I can find. There is no reason someone should buy ANY car, especiallyone at 30K dollars, when the brake squeaking is what it is and Mazda won't compensate me.

I have asked mazda to respond to my request and their answer in writing. Lets see if they actually do.

I think there is a TSB for brake squeal. As well, high performance brakes often squeal, deal with it.

Precisely, what Compensation do you think that you're owed? They are willing to put another part on the car that is better, and they are trying to make it right. Of course, the real problem is you. If you drove the car hard, braking hard, the discs would clean themselves and you would hear nothing. In 40,000 plus miles, I have never had squeaking brakes because I brake hard enough to clean the discs.

Stop bad mouthing the car; MNAO and Mazda. They offered you new pads take them or not is up to you.

There is a new, updated (2nd) brake technical service bulletin, so bring it in again, and hopefully it is better for you.

Here is the TSB for the re-designed brake pads

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...01-06-1568.pdf

I have had my brake pads replaced 3 times so I have to question your resolve in dealing with the dealership. If you get nowhere with them go to another dealer. Print out the TSB and take it in with you.

To get rid of this car for that to stupid. I have to think there is something more to it.

Well, I look at it this eway. I don;t see any G35's around that you can hear braking teo blocks away so when my car was doing it, I complained and got them replaced. I don ;t think opur car should some like a dump truck pulling up.

Sometimes making noise ok...but always making noise unless you are hard on the brakes is not acceptable.

Wow, regretting the whole car because of some brake squeal is quite the extreme reaction.

Did you try changing brake pads?

Or better yet, change to a Camry. I heard they are the ultimate in piece of mind.

I dunno--if my brakes started squeaking, I might regret buying my car, too. Even after loving her for three years and nearly 70,000 glorious miles.

I didn't expect all this harsh critisims from othe rx8 drivers. You're telling me that constanct, high pitched breaking noise when applying brakes is something I should accept ? Why? Because my car is an 8 ?? Come on, get real. For those that want to say I must be the cause... hard breaking etc, your wrong.

The only sensible reply I've seen is the reference to the garbage truck. That's exaclty what my car sounds like when coming to a stop.

I've "dealt" w/ this for almost one year now. Now its time for me to raise holly hell. I will considier the new brake pad now. The only reason I haven't tried it before is because my dealship told me its no better, even worse.

By the way, according to my service tech, he's the 3rd ranked north american RX8 technichian. The issue is not w/ my dealership, its a CRAPY MAZDA BRAKE.

Why would it be a crappy Mazda brake because it squeals? A lot of performance car brakes also squeals. There are enough threads dealing with brake squeals on this forum- check them out. I usually put a little bit of WD-40 and it works great. Honestly the brakes are one of the best parts of the car because when compared to other performance cars costing much more- they deliver- they actually work! The main thing is that they work- now if there is a problem with brake pads falling out etc then it is a safety issue.

So what if it makes a little noise? If you dislike it so much, sell it and get another car. There are plenty of happy 8 owners around who are willing to live with a few minor problems. For 30K you got a heck of car- if everything is perfect- this car will be double its price.

Raising holy hell is not going to get you anywhere. It is like trying to tell Mazda to get the 8 to have a gas mileage of a Honda Insight. Sure we would all like that to happen- but common sense is and common sense does.

Wow. 3rd ranked tech? In what book?

My dealer heard the squeal, replaced the pads, turned the rotors, problem solved.

If your dealer doesn't replace the pads and turn the rotors (as the technical service bulletin indicates), and gives you some line about how the new pads are 'only a little better', then it is time to find a better service tech.

And, if you are unwilling to have Mazda do their job, and have them service your brakes, you need to look in the mirror and ask yourself WHY you are not willing to TRY!!!!

Finally, if you do NOT allow Mazda to do the service bulletin, and you complain to MNAO, then rest assured the first thing they are going to tell you is to have your dealer perform the service bulletin. And, if you DO go to an independent brake shop, you can also rest assured that Mazda will NOT reimburse you for that. They have provided the fix, and if you do not take advantage of it, they are NOT going to pay for your alternative.

Give the TSB a chance, and you may find it resolves your issue.

Oh, and if you don't want your car, I'll give you $500 for it. I love mine and would LOVE to have another one!!

Oh and one last thing - If you decide to post your little hissy-fit on every Mazda forum you can find, you can expect the same range of reactions from just about everyone. Looks like you are not going to get much sympathy when you seem to be the root of the problem.

I dunno.. I'm kinda split between the whole brake squealing thing.. I"ve had my car for 2+ years now and even to this day it still squeals.. Annoying? Definitley..

Now whether 'd ditch the car, no.. It's just an annoying occurance that happens all the time..

but regardless me paying an *** load of money for an upgraded warrenty, not to mention the massive price tag (I paid 52k cdn all in) I think they should do a little more to fix this issue..

now if the fix affects the performance of the brake, then I'll just deal with the noise..

That's part of the issue.. braking hard gets rid of the squeal.. Our brakes were designed to stop quickly as #1 priority.. not be acoustically pleasing.
