Why interior floor lights?

Not being critical here, just curious: Why does anyone want lights around the floor area? (I already know what my shoes look like.)

ambient lighting?

not really sure. but people are buying them after market and installing them, so the manufacturers are starting to offer them as options. never really got the point, but whatever.

In case you have on two different color socks and want to check for sure. Actually the aftermarket Mazda red footwell lights are nice, but they don't stay on very long. Is there a way to hook them up to a switch?

I have them for extra lighting at night. I changed all of my interior lights to red LEDs so the little bit of floor light helps. And it looks really cool. :D

I actually had the wiring of my Mazda OEM footwell light changed to come on with the parking/head light switch. Now when I drive at night I have a nice mood lighting... :D

Check out my DIY.

I thought the picture on Trussville Mazda's parts sight made the interior night lights look cool. The problem I had with them once I installed the kit was that it didn't stay on all the time. There have since been a couple DIYs posted on how to make the Mazda kit work this way. But I ended up going with a $5.49 set of Cold Cathod's from SVC.com

http://svc.com/clk4rd2.html

and wiring them up the way it's described here...

http://www.lswon.com/2005/01/15/cold-cathode-install/

using one of those 3-4 dollar rocker switches from Advance Auto that fits inside the cigarette lighter outlet, run to the accesory wire in the center console. This link describes the wires to use...

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...2&postcount=36

The overall effect is pretty much like the picture on the cold cathode install page. Subtle and not ricey. Everyone whose seen it says it matches the red lights on the dash exactly.

Do you have the links to the lights you bought? I've been wanting to go all-blue myself, but don't know what size I need.

I used Neon tubes because I don't ever want to replace the bulbs if they ever burn out... even if it is LEDs.

I use them in case I drop something on the floor... which happens occasionally.

And they are pretty neat to have... ambience.
