Most of us will keep our 8's awhile, so does it matter.
If Mazda doesn't make many 8's now, then prices will go back up.

Just goes to show that editors at a major car magazine know something about cars, beyond the numbers.

"Get off the highway, and the annoyance caused by the wheezy engine subsides as cornering speeds increase. The suspension takes hits from the road like a champion prizefighter, so much so that during our driving loop the RX-8 was actually the fastest car on real-world roads.

On the track, the Mazda couldn’t make up for its woeful lack of torque and posted the slowest time around the circuit. But just as on the street, the RX-8 inspires confidence in the driver to carry more speed through the corners, and the challenge of maintaining velocity in this car is ultimately more rewarding than relying on the gas pedal in the others to make up for your mistakes. That’s not to say some extra power isn’t sorely needed here — it is — but even at the ripe old age of five, the RX-8 pleases us the most.

I look at it from the other direction: there's no better value among nearly new sports cars. The Mazda RX-8 has a unique engine and body, handles amazingly well, and can be purchased for around $20k. And the insurance cost isn't high, either.

Of course, if people really realized this, the price would go up...

So I'd say a big part of the problem is awareness.

Turbo you RX-8 and say F'You to KBB or NADA books. You'll get a lot more on eGay or B2B sales.

Ha ha, that is the exact line of thinking that led me to Mannheim to pick up an 8 rather then lease a new one... I'll let someone else take the depreciation hit.

But if you do that you'll have to suffer from the excellent handling and 9,000 rpm red line forever...

I don't think you'd get much complaint if it produced more power down low.
