best way to check is to call your local Mazda Dealer, give them your VIN and ask them what Recalls have been done on the car and if the PCM Reflash MSP16 is been performed. It's free also...

Well I just cleaned the maf, letting it dry overnight. Swapped batteries and going to re clean the throttle body again. I know all these are minor affects until I get the coils and wires but after running the seafoam the car hasn't died with a/c on full blast. I was in traffic for an hour and no problem. Car idle still at 700 but hasn't dipped below that.
It still has problem at low rpm and hesitate to get going until almost after the secondary injectors kick in. You think the primary injectors could be going bad?
I feel a loss in power thru out all rpm but only little on the high rpm so I still hope it just the coils or wires.

The cleaner used to clean the MAF evaporates quickly... its likely dry right now.
Another thing to consider with low RPM hesitation is seized brake calipers... I had this happen twice.
If the caliper gets seized on the slide pins, the brake pad will constantly ride on the rotor and give you that hesitant feeling.
Easy to rule out... just jack the front of the car and spin the front tires.
If one is harder to turn than the other (and you will notice a difference) then you know the caliper is seized.
But you also can't rule out any ignition component until you swap those out or properly troubleshoot it.

yeah i swapped my rotors about a year ago and i recently swapped my rims back to stock and remember when i was trying to tighten the bolts the wheels were spinning freely without any hesitation.
but thank you, i had a maxima and one of the coils went out and it acted the way my car did now but with a lot more hesitation in all the rpm ranges.

would it be possible that in adamci24 case maybe his ECU is going out?
a buddy and i dropped a sr20 engine into his sentra and the first two ecu's we used made the car rpm jump and the car would hesitate but it would only do it after it was warmed up. while it was warming up it would idle just fine. not until the third ecu we found did the car operate the way it was suppose to.

I just called my dealership and they would not flash it for me since I'm past the 80k emissions warranty (I am at 88k now). I called Mazda North America 800 number he gave me and they also said there is nothing they could do.
I'm about to sell the exhaust and plugs/coils/wires I just bought and then sell this car because this is pissing me off.
I am willing to put effort into the maintenance of this car but they are being ridiculous. 120$ to flash the PCM? Really? Pure bullshit. Mazda.......

It is defiantly a frustrating issue but its going to be a lot harder to sell ur car in the condition its running.

If this is any help...Here is a video of my RX8 stalling at idle in park on a hot day after driving for 30 min. The whole video, the car was vibrating a lot although you can't tell that. When the car stalls, all the indicator lights come on the right side and the oil gauge drops down. Almost impossible to start immediately afterwards, unless you crank and crank and crank...

I plan on working on my car this Saturday. I hope it doesn't storm all weekend
adamci24, have you replaced your ignition coils and have you flashed the MSP16 that BG-8 pointed to?

Yes, Coils were replaced last month. I did notice a difference...I called my dealer today and they said their computers were down and couldn't check recall statuses. So I will call tomorrow. I looked on mazda's site, which i registered my car with the VIN number, and it says "No recalls for this vehicle" under my cars recall section...does that mean it has been done?

Try calling Mazda Customer Service at 1-800-222-5500. They will also be able to tell you if it has been completed if you give them the VIN.

They are closed right now obviously so I will call tomorrow...when was the recall issued? because the first owner traded the car back to the original dealer in OCT 09, about 7 months ago.

Wow Adamci24 you weren't lying about the car smoking that much. That is over the top and wonder why its smoking like that.
I spoke to the service manager and he told me when they come across 8 with problrms, the first thing they do is take it onto the highway and run it ok third gear for ten minutes. I wonder if you would can do that might help clean the engine.
Have anyone gave any thought to the ecu issue as being the issue? I posted earlier the problem a buddy of mine had with his car and ecu.

Adam, I know you had the dealer check your cat, but I suggest you to take a look for yourself. The Cat could get damaged after a engine decarbing. Just take it out and see if everything is ok in there, if it looks clogged up, or the honeycomb broken.
Have you swapped the fuel pumps yet?
Any rx8 owners around you, where are you from?

The dealership said your engine is in the 7 range? but I wouldn't trust them at all since they said the wires and AEM(Mazdaspeed) causing problem.
Fine, lets just say your engine is pulling 7.1/7.6/whatever 7.X. obviously they never ran test on your throttle body. its a pretty tricky thing to test they have to plug the WDS in and run the test for a while to "notice" the problem. Most dealership don't have tech that know these stuff.

print this out, throw it in their face.
It has nothing to do with 80K emission warranty. they HAVE TO DO IT. They can claim the money back from Mazda as long as the status is "OPEN"
most dealerships ... god ******* retarded asswipes

you might want to speak with another person at MNAO and explain to them this is not what it should be. and when you get a chance you can email the rep this PDF. or ask to speak with their supervisor.
cuz I have a feeling even at MNAO some people might not know WTF is Rx-8/MSP16. not kidding. cuz some dealership didn't know wtf is it too.

Ok, I called mazda and they confirmed that the MSP16 was indeed reflashed in march of 08. So that rules that out. My CEL P2096 has been off for several days now and I've had no Other CELs...
I've been Trying to get the fuel pump installed, I just havnt had the time due to work..

I called MNAO yesterday, and they still said that they could not tell the dealership to perform the MSP16 TSB. She informed me that, if I take the care to the dealer and let them diagnose, they may be willing to perform it out of warranty on a good customer basis, but that it is likely they won't, since I just bought the car and have no history with them.
I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils today. And it still seems to want to idle extremely low (750 rpm) and appears that the issue still exists. However, it did not stall on me. But I must note that it was around 7PM at the time, and the temperature was about 10 F lower than when I have known stalling issues (usually around 85F+ in middle of afternoon).
At the moment, I am cleaning the MAF sensor and will see if that helps (it is pretty dirty). I will post back with any differences.
Also wanted to note what a mechanic I know said. He said that to him, it sounds like a fuel injector needs cleaned/replaced.

I would try a can of Seafoam($8 Walmart) and add it to a half or quarter tank of gas and ring it out give it a few revs to the redline after it warms up.
If you see a little improvement with the first can do it again.
