Why is my RX8 stalling?!
#177
well guys i'm here to update my car and hopefully the last time with this issue.
i installed the bhr ignition kit. for anyone installing this kit in the future, have your girl help with the install because i couldnt get my hands in to tigthen bolts or take them off.
the car runs amazing, starts right up, no hesitation in low rpm and doesnt bog down when in wot. the reaction is very quick and much better then factory and i couldnt be any happier even if it was almost 500 bucks spent. i have so much relief of my chest and thank god for keeping me sane.

Response to "adamci24" on page 1 --- I had this EXACT same problem yesterday, but it took me 12 mintues to get the car to start and I was in a left turn lane at 5 pm in a busy intersection. I am at the dealership today and I brought my extended engine warranty paperwork with me, if they fight me I will use your article to prove it is a common problem.

Well after reading all 8 pages I have some things to add: I am the original owner. It is a 6-speed Sport-AT. I custom ordered the car while in Iraq and picked it up at a dealership in the states. It had 7 miles on it.This was November of 2007. I Always use 90 or 91 octance gas and had the same dealership do every oil change on schedule. I Always drive in Manual Never had a single issue through 99,971 miles until yesterday. The dealership is replacing the engine on my first visit in but they say the CAT is damaged and will cost $2162, I told the service manager that " I don't have that just laying around". And now they won't replace the engine without replacing the CAT ;(

UPDATE: So I replaced the coils a few weeks ago...It fixed my acceleration problems and the car ran great for a while...Then, again the car stalled at an intersection, total loss of engine power. I also noticed that the car had trouble starting when the engine was hot, especially on hot days outside. The check engine light came on again and it was read as a ""secondary air intake sensor malfunction" which again is probably the MAF sensor. I still have the AEM CAI in the car and cleaned the MAF with the official MAF cleaner.
This morning I took the car to my local Mazda dealer. Explained the issues I've been having, and they are going to look at the car today and let me know tonight what they find. The CEL was on when I took it in...The service rep had quoted me $125 for the initial fee to look at the car. I didn't say anything about it, but shouldn't they at least do a compression test and see if it passes or fails before they start charging me money on something that the warranty might cover? I have a feeling they will blame this all on the AEM CAI, which I could understand for some of the rough idle, RPM, maybe stalling problems, but the AEM shouldn't affect the cars hot starting problem, correct? I plan on putting the stock intake in the car after I receive the parts that connect to the main air box, which I don't have right now (just have the airbox).
I will update agin when I see what they say tonight...I just want a compression test done to see what is up with the engine, and if that is one of the problems alongside the AEM. I have a 2005 with 58k BTW.
Thanks guys....

I'm having the exact same issue! Could you please let me know of you were able to fix it? I don't know what to do anymore. I would greatly appreciate!

2004 RX8 stalling
When im at a stop in gear with the clutch in and it should be doing 900 rpms its showing 750 rpms and if i take it out of gear and take out the clutch it drops to 500 rpms and then it stalls, or when im slowing down to a stop i go slow enough with the clutch in the car shuts off. then after doing it for about 25 mins it completely stop it wouldnt start back up. i let it rest for about 15 mins annd it started back up and i drove it just fine but i kep it above 4 rpms untill i stop in my drive way. i cant think what it might be the o2 sensor or the apex seals. but right before i started to drive i did do some work to the car by taking the air in take out to check some wiring for the eps. p
