why are people so worried?

Honestly, this car as enough torque (maybe even moer than enough) for what its supposed to do. This is not the new rx-7. People who whine and cry about little things like not having "a gazillion lb-ft of torque" shouldnt be buying this car if thats what they really want it for.
This car is for the person that wants a nice amount of performance AND a nice ride AND 4 seats AND a cool look, but it wont provide the kind of gutwrenching performance an rx-7 will.

On a side note. The people here need to chill out. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion of whether the torque is an issue or not on the RX-8. Just because someone says the Rx-8, as a sports car, should have more torque doesn't mean he's a troll or that he should leave the forum. Personally I agree with SkyLine Maniac that it needs more torque. But I also think the car is going to be hella fun to drive. I loved rowing the gears in my Prelude and this car has 1 more gear, 50 more horsepower, rear drive, and way better handling.
I think waiting for the new RX-7 is a mistake. The reason is that there is always something new and better on the horizon, just like the computer industry. By the time the new RX-7 comes out there will be something newer and better thats just a year or two away. Just look at the last few years...WRX, 350Z, RX-8, WRX-Sti, Evolution. On the horizon is the new Mustang, RX-7?, Infinity GTR?...

what exactly is the definition of this "pure sports car" that you guys keep talking about?
so far here are the requirements that i've heard from this forum:
good torque
good bps
lightweight
good handling
2 seater
well if you go by that standards, the rx-8 isn't a sports car by any means. but if you think about it, the R34 doesn't meet those standards either. a stock R34 is not lightweight (damn it's heavy...), and it has much elss handling capabilities than a stock rx-7. so what.... are you going to deny the R34 also?? it only comes with 280bps stock, and that's only 30 more than the rx8. now, if you TUNE the R34, then you get a monster.... and i'm sure if you even moderately tune the rx8, you will get a performance machine.
