I remember about 2 weeks after I had gotten my 8 a new Mustang Roush rolled up to me and kept taking off, slowing down, lining back up to me, then taking off, slowing down, and lining back up to me. He did this about 3 or 4 times til he finally just didn't line back up to me...
I was like, 1st off, the whole idea of street racing is ridiciulous, 2nd, it's a Roush. C'moooooon. 3rd there's no twisties so wtf

See this is one of those situations the OP was talking about. The cayenne turbo s was definitaly not going at it. And a rx8 going full out is a light acceleration for a turbo S.
Let me put this in perspective. A stock SRT8 jeep can run 12.9s all day. And A Cayenne Turbo S is faster then that. And especially top end wise like from a roll. The gear ratios are far better suited on the porsche for that kind of stuff.
Or idk maybe it was a V6 Cayenne with turbo s badges?

It's a Cavalier
Yup. Dedicated... good word. No damn way I'm ever going to know as much about the rotary.

Happens every now and then. The other day I was cruising at about 70mph...ish, when a charger SRT passes me going well above the speed limit. I down shifted into 4th and gave chase, just as we approached a fairly tight banked ramp all I saw were its taillight emit a red glow as he braked in an attempt to not wide into the right lane. Needless to say, I passed him and left it behind about ten seconds until he overtook me again in the straight--mainly because I slowed down to the speed limit.

There are probably lots of people outside this forum who have done it also but we never get to hear about those .
BTW if I want more torque than 280 all i have to do is wind up the boost some more (Chicken made 325lbft) . I'm happy that 280 is plenty and near the limit of what the transmission can handle however . Note also that I have 260lbft or more from 3000rpm right through to 7000 so its not like it's a peaky torque curve - very v8 like in fact .

Not too many have managed it so far - the only reason being that the recipe for doing it is not widely known . I certainly wont be holding back any information and having done it , know it is not that difficult at all .

Sure it's easier to get an Impreza to 300HP, and an STI to 500, but that's not what this thread is about, right? The ease of getting there?

It's not just about the information being hard to find. I know there are quite a few threads where you guys discuss tunes, what parts are good and bad, etc. But a lot of people have the "I want it now, cheap, and easy" route, and have no patience or desire to do it right. They look at the 8, they look at the price to FI it, they look at complaints of blowing the seals, and they say this car is slow. As far as I know, this car isn't that much slower than Imprezas and Lancers (non-turbo) stock, and FI can match WRX's and Evo's... so what's wrong with that?

Those other cars can easily upgrade as well , to match or better what I have - but they don't get the rest of the package that comes with the 8 .
I really think the 8 has huge potential as a tuner car and we have really only just started to realise this .

Why I even bother to post any of this is that we have an awesome car in the 8 . Handling , looks , driving feel , practicality is superb . What we are missing is some power to match other cars in the same class . Sure it took a bit to get my 8 to the stage that it makes mince meat of STIs EVOs and just about anything else out there costing less than triple what my 8 cost .

Just a note on the practicality of the 8. I picked up my aunt and 6' 6" uncle at the airport last night from there 2 week trip to Europe. The only bag that went in the car instead of the trunk was my aunt's camera bag. Both were impressed with the room and comfort on the drive home. Luckily my aunt is 5' 2", and fit very comfortably in the back. I can't think of many other cars in it's class or others that can pull that off. All of the people at there airport sure were looking at us a little strange as they threw all of there stuff into cabs and SUV's though.

But my 3 passengers were extremely surprised that everything made it into the trunk!

I can get into plenty of trouble in this 'slow' car anyhow. It gets me up to speed and more quick enough for my tastes. I actually sort of like the lack of huge power as I can mash the pedal down, even in a favorable rpm range, and not have to worry about anything crazy happening. It is just easier to drive in a spirited manor than something with lots of low end torque.
I guess it is what you want out of the car in the first place, I like backseats and don't go stop light to stop light as fast as possible.

My turbo Rx-7 probably has over 400 to the wheels. It looks pretty stock, just has wheels, lowering springs, and a front mount intercooler on it with the stock-looking Racing Beat turbo rx-7 exhaust.
Nobody really tries to race me, and every time I'm out cruising in it I never see anything worthwhile (C6 etc) if I'm actually looking. But of course when I'm in every car but the 7 I'm seeing Z06's, AMG's, M3's, occasional Ferraris, other cars that would have prompted me to do risky things had I been driving the 7.

^ When my 04 350z was stock, Lots of people tried to test me but when I finally had the turbo installed I never ran into anyone who wanted to even try but I guess because they heard my BOV. When I'm driving my rx8 (kind of faster than most in my area) I never run into anything but when I'm in my girlfriends car I've seen supercharged cobras, turbo civics/G35's and I'm like WTF because I feel like showing them up in my one of my other cars.

There's a road i take to get to the freeway that has 4-5 big curves. Before that is a long straight road. People always zoom pass me here trying to show off or something. As soon as the turn starts they brake and slow way down...and i just cruise pass them 8] who needs brakes? i don't even know what that is...lol

One of my auto-x days a few months back, I was out in the last Work group, at the far side of the airfield, so I had my 8 parked behind the tower nearby. They asked everyone out to collect up, or at least group up, the cones/flags/radios etc.. to speed up the tear down of the course. I literally kept piling cones and 5-gallon buckets full of stuff into my 8 that it was getting humorous, and I paused to count everything before transfering to the van that hauls it all to and from the airfield.
- 189 cones (3ft ones I think) (stacked about 10-15 cones per stack)
- 4 5-gallon buckets
- 6 reg flags
- 5 radios
- 4 large shade umbrellas
I was getting quite a few comments and laughs from the miata guys that organized the event as I kept pulling stack after stack after stack of cones out of my trunk, front seats, and back seats. I literally had just over half of the ~1 min course in my 8.
Some of the Miata's bring their wheels/tires on a small trailer.
I can bring a small course in the car.

Anytime you have any type of car that is classified as a sports car or sporty car you get people who want to race you. Usually its the Mustang crowd but sometimes its a guy in a Merc S600, sometimes it's a guy in Jeep Wrangler.
If you don't want people to act like that drive a Corrola, truck or mini-van. I never get people trying to race me in the wife's Oddysey.
I'm tempted to replace the STI badges with 2.5 RS badges if their weren't so many of them. May still do it but the exhaust would give me away.

I had a guy in an ES300 mess with me yesterday. I think all he really wanted to see was what it would do. I think that's the case with the RX8 as well. It's sort of a compliment... they just want to see it run... hear what it sounds like.

They can just go home and turn on the blender or vacuume cleaner haha thats what stock ones sound to me. And it may just be me but ones with Intakes sound really ricey to me. Reminds me of when i used to swap hondas and ran an open header on a B16 swaped hatch till i found an exhaust. But slightly less loud.

I love it when people "downbadge" their cars. That's awesome... but, yah, you can't get rid of that exhaust. Your's looks freaking awesome... reminds of M-coupe quad pipe style, but really clean.

I do get less than I did before. The RX8 looks good, it looks fast and there just aren’t a ton of them out there when compared to a Mustang, WRX or even a G35 in my area. Even after 5-6 years it’s still a very attractive and sporty looking car. People will want to see what it can do. I always had someone line up against me at a light in the 8. Luckily most weren’t douches and didn’t rev or do anything too stupid.
I don’t think a lot of people know what a 08+ STI looks like which helps but I think I will rebadged the back an maybe the front grill if I can. Not too much I can do about the sides and you can hear the exhaust from a good ways off (need to get a resonator on that).
Now I just roll down the back windows and ask the kids to wave.

Around where I live you don't see many 8's. Usually stangs,evos,srt4,and many g35's. For the most part no one really tries to race me. Ofcours there are drivers who like to toy with me but I just keep driving. One tactic I do use and love is when they pull next to me and the light turns green I run my 1st gear all the way to redline just cruising not smashing the gas pedal. By the time I'm about to shift the other car is already on 3rd gear. It puzzles them for a few seconds to the point that they start wondering "holy ****,must be fast" even though that might not be the case compared to their stang,evo,g35 etc. I have people tell me that they always thought the rx8 puts out 300hp. Like a few guys posted here already they just want to see it run. Our cars are mysterious to them and that sometimes works to my advantage and even though we don't push 300hp its flatterring to know some people outside this forum respect our cars.
