WHY? ... WHY ??? ... damage
Why do they let stupid dumb A@#$%$ drive on the street?
She was visiting my neighbor, my 8 was parked in the driveway and she hit the rear left fender with her Civic
Atleast she was nice to let me know the damage was done and gave me her insurance number etc. It is Geico. She also said if the damage is less than $500 she'd pay cash.
Q1:
Have a look at the pics. How bad does it look? Do you think this kind of damage when fixed would come up in a carfax?
Q2:
Should I have the dealer fix it or some other place?
I have never been in an accident before. Please advise how to proceed with this. I still cant believe this...right there in my driveway!!! WHY ?

I agree more than $500.00 worth. I had similar scratches on my rear bumper cover, cost $240.00 to repaint the whole cover so the paint would match. The metal work will be more expensive. I had my dealer do it so the new paint is covered under the balance of the factory waranty.

That's if they fix it on the dealer,
I have never been fond of replacing quarter panels unless it is abloluteley necesary. (It involves cutting the old one off and that is never good.) Kind of like cutting the roof to install an after market sunroof. unless it ts done by a very good shop it will never be as good as new.
Your damage doesen't look that bad. You can take it to a body shop and have it properly fixed. Get an estimate first so that she can take the claim to her inshurance. And yess it might be kind of expensive, because the paint on our cars is very expensive, plus they will have to replace the plastic stone guard (transparent sticker on the pannel) $40, labor $400- $600 and paint and materials so between 700 and 1500. In your case I would take to the best body shop I can find but also get an estimate from the dealer.
Good luck.

The rim looks scratched too. Good luck with the fix. Geico should be pretty good. Get a few estimates and also ask around. I'm sure some folks you know will have experience with a body shop. When I got hit a few years back, I asked around and found a great repair shop that did a wonderful job. Word of mouth advertising... works every time.

Ouch, hurts just looking at it. At least she admitted to the damage. definitely over $500. Get several estimates.
You might try reaching out to "TreknMazda" for some ideas for good body shops in Va.

Yeah, that's more than $500 worth of damage, she taged both panels. One of those certainly needs to be replaced.

Hey, I just call it as I see it....we should set up a poll for owners who have had this misfortune by color of the car.

Thanks all for your sympathies
Most of you suggested to get various estimates. I called my insurance (geico) and they logged all the info as a 'report' and was told same thing will be logged on the other person's insurance policy as 'claim'. They gave me an appointment to see a local body shop where a GEICO adjuster will examine the damage (and write a check??).
I think I am going to get estimates from 1) my Mazda Dealer 2) other local recommended body shops. If the Geico Adjuster's estimate is higher than others I'll just take the check and then have the car repaired. If it is lower than others then I dont take the check, leave the car at dealer/body shop and let them deal with the insurance.
Am I going the right way?
Many thanks.

I called my insurance to get some idea how this will be taken care of...they noted everything down just as a report. Thats it.
Just for my own info are you required by law to inform your insurance company of any damage to your vehicle regardless of which party caused the damage in an accident?
Question:
If I was to sell the car in future would this kind of damage/fix come up in a carfax report?

That is over $500 for sure. They will have to repaint the rear bumper and blend the driver's side of the car to match the paint. They can pull that dent with a stun gun and block and fill the uneven spots.
I say at least $2500. It will show on Carfax and you will also have to disclose it to a dealer if you trade it in since it's over $500.
