Winter Depression

Winter Depression
Who is depressed without there 8 this winter?
I decided to put mine away just because I have a winter beater and might as well use it until it doesn't work anymore. Once its done maybe I will consider driving my 8 in the snow.
My winter beater is a sunfire with duct tape on the bumper
I am going to reaaaly appreciate my 8 when the summer spring comes.

Just ordered snow tires for my 8, so not depressed 1 bit. I'm ready to put her to the test with a NY winter.
+1 to op though. My beater is a pontiac sunfire too lol. It does not have duct tape on the front but it does have copper wire holding the muffler up off the ground though.

I drive my 8 all year round. Not like snow is a big problem in Virginia, but we get enough to care about.
When I had the OE tires on my 8, I still had my old Honda Accord. Using that car on a couple of hundred mile trip when winter weather threatened was really annoying. The Honda is now gone, and Zoomy has all seasons. No more off season.
When there's too much snow to take any car out of the garage, I get my internal combustion kicks with my snow blower.

I would say storing a car for the winter might be overkill in some areas where snow is not as heavy/frequent. It's an RX-8 we we are talking about here not a $235,000 Ferrari, lol.
The ONLY time when I certainly do not drive the 8 is when they put salt on the roads around here before really heavy snow days. I have a 4X4 truck for those days Where I live it's all steep hills w/curves. It's just safer to drive the truck those days.
But just because it gets colder outside - or it snows moderately - shouldn't stop people from driving and enjoying their cars IMHO.

I just detailed it before the weather gets cold. clay, polish and wax.
I do take it out for a little spin tho of its dry outside. I see no reason why not unless its raining or snowing just because I dont wash it often.
but yes I have summer tires on. these tires dont work in snow at all or when its a bit cold outside.

I wish I could drive her one more time, but I took her of my insurance to save some money, since she's sleeping right now. The sad thing is that it's only been three weeks and am o'ready thinking of calling amica to put her back on for at less one more week!!!;-(
I actualy call them today, but the local office was close today, just my luck, Lol

I put my snows on a month ago now, but here in CO I can still wash from the house hose, wax, and detail (done once a month) so I dont get this depression spoken of. For track days I just pull off the snows and put on my track tires and head to the track.

Are you guys who put away their 8's masochistic? There are a hell of a lot of people who use the car as a Daily driver. How else can they get up there in the 100K club anyway? You check the weather and unless it is going to snow 3+ inches, just put snow tires on and drive it.
Yes, the mileage will be even less than usual but the fun is still there driving it every day.

I could not imagine driving my baby in slush and snow. I hardly even rains here and that is bad enough. I hate seeing her dirty. But it has been sunny and 70's here so............

You sound like you are proud of how you treat it. My car gets washed every weekend. Which is why it is pristine after 8 years and 133,000 miles. But I would never drive her in sleet, snow, or hail.

Mine goes into hibernation the first icy day when they put salt down. You should see the crap they put on the roads where I live. Some sort of liquid calcium chloride stuff. It gets everywhere. places the factory rustproofing doesn't even reach. It will make your car start rusting in just one season. Ive seen it happen.
I want my car to be beautiful and rust free for its whole life.

Even if i had the option of another car, i'd still drive it all year. My car is certainly not neglected. Mechanically anyway. but the paint still shines from about 10ft out.
i kept telling myself i'd get it repainted and care again after graduation. still havent gotten around to it. Lubbock is hell on any car. thats when the aint care kicked into high gear.
i tried to keep my car clean first term freshman year. yeah. no. lasted 2 days tops.

Mine will be put away next weekend. My fiancé just got a new CX-5, so I'll be driving her Civic around for the Winter. Might as well. I'll miss the 8, but I'm excited to get behind the wheel of her CX-5...
