Woman Trouble (sort of)
Wife drove my 8 for the first time today. (solo and first time)
Heard he getting back from the Gym. so i went out to see if she felt comfortable pullin into the garage, (she is not the best and parking in there) She had the top open and was wearing a BIG *** GRIN :D on her face. first thing that made it past her grin was "Wow, I really like your car" I was so relieved she still refered to is as mine. lol. anybody else having this problem??

Yeah my wife is still a little... uh... maybe a lot pissed off that she didn't get the X-5 we were looking at because I spotted the 8 the same week we were supposed to be getting her a new car :D . I think it will take a while for that one to wear away...

Yes, my wife wants to drive it all the time. I think it will be easier to get myself the RX7 when it comes out. Give her the 8. And I'll settle with the 7. Save the Sequoia for the winters. Ha Ha

yeh...mine waits till i'm out of town as well...but she doesn't really want to drive it...i'm not sure if it's because she knows i had been waiting for this car for forever or she just doesn't get any pleasure driving it...that's ok for me though..cause i do...she's your typical...cell phone glued to ear Tahoe driving soccer mom...so i'm kinda glad she doesn't drive the 8...since she likes the curb action...

We have had our 8 since last September and my wife refuses to drive it for fear of putting a scratch on it. So she drives the Jeep Liberty Limited instead. Darn! I really feel badly about that! Not!

I've got the opposite problem.
My wife really seemed cool with the 8. Now, it's getting closer to "buy Dave a car" time and she's getting nervous. We're going to test drive it and put my little dude in his carseat in the back, so hopefully that will take care of it and she'll be fine.
But she's totally irrational about it. (she probably thinks the same of me) She comes up with stuff like, "the rear windows are so small," and "what happens if you get hit from the side? they'd never get Jake out!"
I've shown her all the numbers on the interior, showing her it's really as big as the 325i that she "approves" of, as well as all the pictures of cars that have been crashed and held up remarkably well.
Doesn't matter. She has her own opinion, and mine doesn't count for squat. She believes the d@mn Volvo sales manager at our dealership who says things like "the tires are really bad in cold," etc, more than she believes me! Heck, all of our cars have snows now, why would the 8 be different? Yet she still trots out the same old arguments, despite my addressing and refuting them.
This is going to get ugly before it's over.
Now, I could wind up with something completely nice and practical, like the new Subaru Legacy GT, which seems nice.
But it's not the one car I really *love* and that's the 8...
Any words of wisdom??

While my wife doesn't want to drive the 8 the same can't be said for for my 2 and a half year old grandson. He loves to drive in the 8 in his carseat in the back and keeps insisting "faster grandpa, faster." Ever since I got the Blue 8 he keeps telling me that blue is his favorite color and always tells me "cool car, grandpa" when he comes to my house.
On a side note, I am over 50 and have been, how shall I say it, follicle challenged, for over half of those years. I now wear what hair I have very closely cropped. The last few weeks my grandson has been trying to cut his hair with whatever pair of scissors he can find. This has resulted in a few bare spots on the side of his head. When his mom asked him why he kept trying to cut his hair he said "I want my hair to be like grandpa's." When she asked him why, he said "so I can have a cool blue car like his."
How's that for the ultimate compliment on the 8!!

Separate bank accounts, separate bathrooms, separate cars: these are the keys to a happy marriage.
Racerdave: the way it works at my house is that the 8 is for me and what I do, and the Infiniti I30, soon to become a Volvo S80T6, is for the wife and what she does, including toting our two-year-old niece.
I taught the Spousal Unit to drive stick years ago when I restored an old British roadster for her as a fun-time car. But she's out of practice with the clutch and too stressed out to drive my 8 in hilly San Diego. Works out great.

Just say NO!
Actually, I've let most of my friends testdrive my car. It's no biggie, I trust their driving as they trust mine. Now if a not-so-close friend or acquiantance asks, I just say no . . . unless they have a car that I would like to test drive.
When I was younger, I always said I'm going to buy an MT car just so my mom can't drive it! No wife yet, though, and my ex-GF hasn't seen the car yet.
One of my best friends (who is a girl) loves my car but will not drive it. She has driven an MT before, but isn't very good at it. I would still let her try it though, as long as I'm in the car with her. I had to almost force her to drive a Z3 (AT) when I had one for a weekend. But she loved it afterwards and didn't want to stop!

Well, my wife does not drive MT and she is perfectly fine with me driving anyway, she like to watch all the heads turn and see who is "checking us out" (me and the car = 'us') :p She was the one who encouraged me to consider the 8! I was going to get a GTP or wait for the GTO, but did not like the idea that the GTP had no MT. I saw the 8 at a car show at Robins Air Force Base where I am stationed and I was hooked as soon as my cheeks hit the leather drivers' seat (then the salesman let me fire her up and it was a done deal!) I had my 8 2 months later:D We were concerned with our kids' safety and did the research about it, when we learned that the center pillar was stronger than a normal pillar and came standard with curtain airbags, it was a non-issue.
As for friends asking to drive it, I simply let them kow that when they make a monthly payment they can take it for a little spin, but only with me in the passenger seat! Then I tell them my wife doesn't even drive it...I leave out the part of not being able to drive a MT though.
