Wondering which "trim/ type" to get
Im getting an RX-8 soon for many reasons, but I wanted to know what you all thought on the "trims/ type" of 8s. Im thinking of getting the Sport, but there is also the Touring and Grand Touring, money is not an object when it comes to this car, any help on narrowing down my choice would be awsome. Also which "trim" did you all get?
Thanks
Thanks

Do you want the sun(moon)roof? The Bose stereo?
That was the deciding factor for me between the Sport and the GT. I didn't want either.
Actually, if I could have gotten a GT with no sunroof (like everywhere else in the world except for the US ) then I would have picked the GT; Bose or not.
The sunroof was a definite no-no for me, so the only package I could get was the Sport. Now I'm happy because the stereo is easier to upgrade and I got aftermarket leather and Homelink mirror, so I honestly don't miss anything what the Touring or the GT would offer.

the interior leather package is different..i think the 06 has suede seats (alterra)....rims are polished on shinkas and the shocks are bigger..

Not a noob to cars or raceing them (mostly F1 Karts at the moment) but I dont know much at all about 8s thats why Im here. Ive researced a bit, but I wanted help on what would be the rarest 8, or one that would get recognition by the community.

If you want rare/special, that would be the Shinka. No idea if that translates into better value.
If you'e looking for status among other 8 owners, the only thing that seems to matter is AT or MT - there is an element that looks down on ATs. Otherwise, there isn't any heirarchy. All 8s are equally loved by the community. There is quite a bit of "Ooh - that's cool!" regarding add-ons and mods, but nothing on trim level.
Trim level really is a matter of personal preference. I have a dislike for leather seats and sunroofs, but like tight suspension, so the Sport Package was just right for me. YMMV.

They should drive the same regardless of trim altho there is some weigh difference but its unlikely that you are going to notice it on a quick test drive
GT weighs the most with the leather and power seats + heated seats and mirrors.
I have the touring because i dont feel the need for the leather, altho i wish for the power seats. The touring has cloth that is suede like, actually feels like a sport seat.
I think the touring is good for me because its a sports car haha, and i feel like the cloth seats suit it better than leather. I like the sunroof and bose audio + homelink. Basically i think the touring offers a lot of what you need and some things you want....well for me. It all comes down to individual needs, i use the sunroof a lot and i like to listen to my music loud at times on a decent radio. It would be a waste if you had these options but never use them, in that case, you might be better off with a less equipped RX-8.
I get the sport if you were tall or just wanted the most inexpensive RX-8 for track use. It weighs the least and doesn't. I think mazda named the "trims" appropriately. GT has all the comforts = grand tourer...Touring has some goodies and is the middle.......Sport is jsut the basics with maybe xenons and fogs and DSC.
Honestly, take a look at your needs first, do you want leather, do u want power seats? = GT, if you want just some goodies like BOSE AUDIO and SUNROOF, then touring.....etc.

The sunroof takes away too much headroom, imo. Also, $2000 for the navigation unit is crazy. Sport gets you the important performance bits, and you can take the money you save to mod it the way you like -- like custom leather . As a side benefit, you don't have the Bose, and without the Nav there is a good place for gauges (real oil temp & pressure and real coolant temp).

And I personally love the Bose, it sounds great (it's the first system I've ever had that I haven't had to upgrade).

[QUOTE=Huskyfan23]Just curious, why didn't you want to get a moonroof? I think without it, the 8 can be very claustrophobic.

I agree. Even when it's raining, I just leave the shade open. That extra light that comes in gives you the feel of a more open area.

Personally, I got the Sports Package (6 MT). It was a cheaper choise, plus I figured that this will be my fun car to drive, not so much appearance on interior packages and so forth.
